Position description

The Dzeng Lab is now recruiting for a Full Specialist. This position is for a candidate to lead a project on structural racism across the life course and its impact on experiences of serious illness care in older Black adults in Birmingham, Alabama.

Required qualifications :

  • Appointees at the Full rank must possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization.
  • Lived and work experience with working with older Black adults in Birmingham, Alabama.
  • Experience analyzing qualitative data using atlas.ti or other qualitative data analysis software.
  • Able to work remotely and independently leading a qualitative research study site in Birmingham Alabama.
  • Ability to independently lead research projects remotely.
  • Must be able to travel to San Francisco approximately twice a year to participate in week long fieldwork interview and study related experiences.
  • Experience working in community based research.
  • At least four (4) years of relevant experience, preferably in the healthcare setting.
  • Training or experience in social sciences field (e.g., public health, sociology, anthropology, policy).
  • Ability to interface with and work well in a culturally sensitive manner with diverse communities in the context of community-based research.
  • Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding time frames.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities.

Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service.
