Animal Medical Clinic (AMC), is a fast-growing clinic / hospital in Huntsville, AL that is looking to add a member to our team!

We are looking for Technicians / Assistants to work full time in our general practice, acupuncture and chiropractic side of the hospital.

We are hiring for full time day shifts (4 days a week, 10 hour shifts) weekends off. Come work at a hospital where you can gain experience, have fun, and make a difference with the care we provide to animals, owners, and our team!

Technician / Assistant Description

Our Technicians / Assistants are responsible for the care and treatment of healthy, unstable ill patients, triaging emergency patients, and monitoring hospitalized pets.

They operate under the supervision of a doctor and department leads. This is an overview of the position and is not limited to the listed duties below.

Major Duties. Compensation is based on experience.

• Help triage phone calls, appointments, or walk-ins, as necessary. Reviewing medical records as necessary to assist in those triages
• Perform appropriate patient restraint for examinations and procedures
• Understand most major illnesses and the appropriate treatment
• Acquire, prepare, and ship laboratory specimens along with running automated CBCs, running various chemistries, and collect, evaluate, and report urinalysis results.
• General nursing care such as : accurately obtaining and assessing patient vitals (temperatures, pulses / heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, pain score, etc.

• Perform general venipuncture, peripheral / central / arterial catheter placement and maintenance
• Induction, surgical skin preparation, monitor and recovery of surgical patients for minor or major surgical procedures
• Admitting and discharging patients, client communication and education, answering phone calls and scheduling appointments
• Cleaning, stocking, general organization, and maintenance of equipment and supplies

Required Knowledge and Skills :

• Knowledge of basic veterinary practices, procedures, and terminology with a willingness to learn and possibly pursue further education.
• Ability to appropriately handle, lift and restrain animals (dogs, cats) and stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to perform veterinary medical procedures (i.e., administer CPR, draw blood, administer medications and fluids, and assess and triage patients.)
• Ability to communicate well with other technicians and doctors regarding the needs of the patients
• Preferred : Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Certified Veterinary Assistant, or have experience with in the veterinary technician field.

Position Skills :

• Assist DVMs and credentialed veterinary technicians with appointments, prepping patients for surgery and minor procedures, surgical assisting, and pro-actively set up for any procedures or diagnostic tests
• Restrain animals in a safe, efficient, and caring manner
• Obtain accurate vitals, obtain medical histories, and / or note any changes of patient’s condition to DVM
• Collect and prepare laboratory samples such as fecal, urine, and ear cytologies
• Care and maintenance of all medical equipment including laboratory machines, surgical packs, anesthesia machines, and any other tools that are essential to daily operations
• High quality client communication on patient updates and questions

Position Requirements :

• High School diploma or GED certificate
• Flexible schedule including some weekend and holiday shifts
• Knowledge of medical procedures and animal handling
• Must possess strong communication skills, good judgment and be able to manage stressful situations, and work with others on a team respectfully
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Pay range of $11.35-$19.50 / hour based on experience
