Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill a part-time (a minimum of 10 hours per week and a maximum of 24 hours per week) Cascades Edge Event Specialist position at Oregon State University-Cascades .

These student positions will be located in Bend, Oregon .

The Cascades Edge Event Specialist is a student employee who will work alongside the Cascades Edge Coordinator to plan and execute engaging career competency events at OSU-Cascades.

They will be responsible for the logistics of the event planning process, including scheduling, room selection, furniture configuration, catering, and event technology coordination.

Additionally, the Cascades Edge Event Specialist will be involved in event setup, cleanup, and evaluation.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Cascades Edge initiative, promoting student success, and contributing to the overall success of OSU-Cascades. Position Duties

Plan and execute events that align with the goals of the Cascades Edge initiative : The Cascades Edge Event Specialist will work closely with the Cascades Edge Coordinator to create original events and support faculty-submitted event opportunities each week (except finals weeks) that align with the goals of the Cascades Edge initiative.

They will help to develop event themes, goals, and objectives, ensuring that each event contributes to the overall success of the initiative.

Plan and organize events with appropriate staff : The Cascades Edge Event Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that all logistics related to the event are taken care of.

This includes selecting an event space that is appropriate for the event, arranging for equipment rental, coordinating with caterers, and ensuring that the event is accessible for attendees.

Coordinate with event speakers, sponsors, and attendees to ensure a smooth and successful event : The Cascades Edge Event Specialist will assist in coordinating with event speakers, sponsors, and attendees.

They will ensure that speakers have the necessary equipment and materials for their presentations, sponsors have the necessary visibility at the event, and attendees have a positive experience overall.

Participate in event setup, breakdown, and cleanup : The Cascades Edge Event Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that the event is set up, broken down, and cleaned up properly.

This may involve coordinating with other student employees to ensure that all tasks are completed on time and that the event runs smoothly.

Evaluate the success of events and provide feedback to the Cascades Edge Coordinator to improve future events : After each event, the Cascades Edge Event Specialist will be responsible for evaluating its success.

This may involve collecting feedback from attendees, analyzing event metrics, and providing feedback to the Cascades Edge Coordinator on how to improve future events.

Support other campus events as needed : The Cascades Edge Event Specialist will be expected to support other campus events as needed.

This may involve assisting with planning, logistics, or promotion for Student Life, Residential Education and Housing, Career Development Center, or other university department events.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standardHigh School student : Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling programUndergraduate and post-baccalaureate student : 6 credit hours per termUndergraduate international student : 12 credit hours per term*Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School : 5 credit hours per termGraduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School : 9 credit hours per term*
  • International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered full-time by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

A reduced course load is approved by the (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required Qualifications

  • Be a current full time OSU-Cascades student or degree partnership student with OSU-Cascades and COCC with a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.50 or higher.
  • Maintain good academic and conduct standing with OSU-Cascades.
  • Ability to lift 25 to 50 lbs.
  • Demonstrate basic event planning and logistics skills.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy in completing tasks.
  • Demonstrate an ability to be professional, reliable, and punctual while representing the university in a positive manner.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work independently and take initiative to complete tasks.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

  • Proficiency in CampusGroups or other student engagement software.
  • Experience in data management and analysis.
  • Experience in marketing or graphic design.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

  • The position is a part-time student employment opportunity, with a maximum of 24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during summer and breaks.
  • The work schedule is flexible and will be adjusted to accommodate the student’s class schedule and other academic commitments.
  • Work may be performed remotely or on-campus, depending on the needs of the position and the availability of resources.
  • The position requires regular collaboration and communication with campus administrators, event organizers, and other stakeholders, both in-person and virtually.
  • The work environment includes attending and assisting with events and activities, which may require standing or walking for extended periods, lifting and moving equipment or materials, and working in various weather conditions.
  • The position may require occasional evening or weekend work, depending on the timing and scheduling of campus events and activities.

Compensation This position is paid at a standard rate of $16.00 / hour, up to 24 hours / week during the academic year and 40 hours / week during breaks and summer.

The student employee submits a timesheet for supervisor approval on the 15th of each month and receives their paycheck on the last day of the month.
