Position Summary
The Department of Surgery at The University of North Carolina is seeking applications for a full-time academic burn surgeon to join our Division of Burn Surgery and Jaycee Burn Center.
The Jaycee Burn Center is one of the busiest burn centers in the United States. The Division currently includes three faculty members who provide a broad array of services for patients with severe burn injuries and related conditions.
Academic appointment will be commensurate with the candidate's experience. Opportunities exist to lead the development of a comprehensive wound service for the appropriate candidate.
This is an Open Rank, and can be Fixed Term, Tenure / Tenure Track, or variable track, 0.5 FTE to 1.0 FTE Academic appointment that will be offered to commensurate with the candidate's experience.
Faculty members within the Division of Burn Surgery contribute to all three missions of the department and School of Medicine.
Faculty members regularly participate in the education of medical students, residents, fellows in our Burn fellowship, and members of the broader health care community.
Additionally, all burn faculty participate in outreach to our many referring hospitals and to EMS providers across North Carolina.
Regarding the research mission, a commitment to any of a broad array of research interests is desirable, including but not limited to clinical, basic translational and basic science, ethics, outcomes, health services, education, or global surgery research.
Independent of individual research goals, supporting the research mission of the Burn Division is essential. Regarding the clinical mission, faculty members must be committed to delivering high quality clinical care in burn surgery, critical care, and complex wound management.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Prospective candidates must Board Certified / Board Eligible in General Surgery and / or Plastic Surgery with substantial burn experience with burn fellowship training.
Must either have a current North Carolina Medical License or be eligible for application.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Board Certified / Board Eligible in Surgical Critical Care is considered a strength. The ideal applicant will have a focused and demonstrated interest in burn surgery and managing critically ill burn patients, as well as experience building and leading a comprehensive wound service.
Special Physical / Mental Requirements
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
