PTBE seeks an inaugural Director of Membership Engagement to enable the community to enhance its culture of belonging, by engaging and recognizing individuals of diverse backgrounds, life stages and spiritual practices so that every congregant is seen, valued, and appreciated.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to create and launch new relational engagement strategies throughout PTBE’s vibrant community of 650 member households.
The Director of Membership Engagement will embody PTBE’s inclusive spirit by deepening connections and enriching member experiences.
Reporting to the Executive Director, this role will partner closely with the clergy, professional team, and lay leadership in advancing the work of the newly forming Engagement Committee.
This role will also work to ensure that mechanisms for philanthropic support at PTBE are aligned with the community’s ethos.
A successful candidate will bring 5+ years of related professional experience, an entrepreneurial spirit, excellent leadership abilities, and deep enthusiasm for community building.
Responsibilities
- Nurture a deep culture of belonging for existing and new members, resulting in greater inclusion for those of diverse backgrounds and interests.
- Develop and launch a strategic framework for enriched relational engagement experiences for congregants across ages and stages through small group convenings;
help to establish clear goals, outcomes, and benchmarks for this initiative.
- Support clergy and volunteers, including the Engagement Committee, in their leadership roles with all engagement activities.
- Partner with senior professionals and lay leaders in supporting the congregation’s financial vitality through year-round development and donor recognition efforts.
- Contribute to planning and implementation of the Chai Giving campaign, including training board members and supporting chairs and solicitors.
- Help to integrate and actualize PTBE’s deep commitment to DEI in all community messaging and programming.
Qualifications & Skills
- 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Talent for forging connections across various constituencies.
- Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing new initiatives.
- Strong organizational skills with comfort managing multiple projects and adapting to change.
- Proactive and self-driven work style.
- Familiarity with Jewish culture, customs, and practices preferred.
- Ability to inspire others through relationships and storytelling.
- Passionate about engagement within spiritual communities.
- Skilled in articulating and promoting PTBE’s mission, vision, and impact.
- Basic knowledge of nonprofit development practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with ShulCloud a plus.
- Ability to work on a flexible schedule, including some evenings / weekends.
