Controls / Instrumentation Engineer
Our client is seeking a Controls / Instrumentation Engineer to join their organization.
This role is a hybrid model and is open to candidates in Portland, Oregon, Spokane or Kalama, Washington.
Controls / Instrumentation Engineer Responsibilities
- Design / Analysis / Engineering of Control Systems and Instrumentation selection at large industrial facilities
- Perform work requiring the application of basic technical principles, theories, standards, and concepts. This will include reading and understanding design drawings and technical specifications as necessary to support preparation of project deliverables, such as calculations, specifications, drawings and engineering evaluations.
- Perform reviews, assemble and sketch (in preparation for drafting) controls block diagrams, DCS / PLC enclosure drawings, Interconnection details, IO Wiring details, Emergency stop circuits, P&ID’s, Loops and Elementaries.
- Perform site walkdowns to identify design solutions and develop cost-effective problem resolutions
- Develop and maintain controls and instrumentation engineering budgets / schedules, direct drafters, prepare reports and perform quality checks for projects designed by Others.
- Develop controls and instrumentation capital cost estimates.
- Most projects are multi-disciplined and require extensive interface with other staff engineers as well as engineers working out of our offices.
- Evaluates operations & proposed modifications to determine compliance with engineering principles, standards, federal, state, or local statutes, and environmental regulations.
Controls / Instrumentation Engineer Qualifications
- Preferred Licensed PE in Electrical, Controls, or Instrumentation.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, etc) from an accredited university.
- Demonstrated proficiency in preparation of calculations.
- Makes recommendations based on knowledge and experience.
- Directs and oversees routine and advanced technical work performed by others on assigned projects and maintains quality standards of all assigned projects.
- Proficient in Word and Excel.
- Ability to be an individual contributor and work effectively in teams.
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal to effectively communicate internally and externally.
- Experience with VFDs, motor control, unit substations, switchgear, standby generators, UPS systems, PLC hardware.
- Knowledge of NEC codes and IEEE standards.
- Good writing, presentation, and communication skills.
- Must be able to traverse stairs and ladders at client sites.
- Must be able to traverse client sites to conduct walkdowns.
- Must be able to work outside at client sites in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to travel between 5-10% of the time; duration of travel will vary depending on project and client needs.
- Programming experience is a plus. Experience :

Salary : $105,000-$140,000 / year. (DOE)
