THE ROLE
The Refugee Minor Program (RMP) is responsible for providing case management, supervision and support to young refugees who are in Australia without parents.
The Refugee Minor Program is a statewide service with services provided across Metropolitan Melbourne and Regional Victoria.
As an Education and Training Advisor, your role will be to support and progress the educational outcomes for children and young people supported by the RMP.
Using a systems approach you will work closely with a range of stakeholders in the education and training sector to ensure that children and young people from refugee backgrounds have access to the necessary resources and supports required to achieve their educational and developmental potential.
The Education and Training Advisor will also be responsible for providing secondary consultation and professional development for case managers across the refugee minor program and contracted agencies.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE
- Work directly with a case-load of young people to support their engagement with educational, training or vocational opportunities
- Work directly with unaccompanied young refugees in a manner that is sensitive to issues pertaining to diversity of gender, race, religion and culture, in dealing with clients and their caregivers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
This includes developing ways of engaging clients, some of whom may not have responded to traditional intervention.
Provide authoritative professional advice to internal staff and external stakeholders on matters relating to education needs of children and young people from refugee backgrounds.
