Job Summary :
Direct Support Counselor is desired to work in the Covington home of an individual who requires 24-hour supported living services.
Candidates will work with a 5-member, female mandated, team. Full or part-time hours are available.
Our client thrives on her daily routine yet also enjoys impromptu outings and being participant of her community. She is non-verbal, with significant physical disabilities, and limited cognitive abilities.
Paid training is included.
Responsibilities and duties include :
- Providing mobility support,
- Promoting positive : mental, physical, and nutritional health
- Observing, monitoring, and recording clients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, and weight
- Healthy communication with clients, relatives, and other caregiving assistants
- Personal care, including infection prevention and control, food, personal hygiene and overall reassurance, comfort and safety
- Performing household chores and ordering supplies

Compensation and Benefits :
Starting pay is $22.05 per hour. Full-time employees receive medical and dental benefits, paid vacation and sick leave, holiday bonus pay, and 401(k) options.
Scheduling :
Parkview provides 24-hour care including weekends and holidays. A full-time schedule consists of any combination of the following shifts : 8 : 00AM-1 : 00PM, 8 : 00AM- 1 : 00PM, or 1 : 00PM-11 : 00 PM.
Also, (1) overnight shift is available during the hours of 11 : 00PM to 8 : 00AM.
Training :
New counselors will complete 75+ hours of training which will include : Orientation & Safety, Core Basic Fundamentals of Caregiving, Nurse Delegation, First Aid & CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens, Food Handlers, Parkview Policies & Procedures training, and receive a Home Care Aide Certification.
Direct Support Staff with then be required to complete 12 hours of continuing education annually. DSHS regulations require all new counselors to complete a tuberculosis test and be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
New employees must also pass a fingerprint criminal background check.
Requirements :
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant post-secondary education in social services, psychology, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is essential.
- Strong leadership abilities, with a proven track record of fostering a positive team environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities effectively.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations.
- Knowledge of DDA guidelines and regulations is a plus.
