Staff Flight Test Instrumentation Specialist

Job Description
This position will support the design, development, and certification of a new class of all-electric aircraft. As a member of the Flight Test Operations Instrumentation team, you will be working closely with the wider test and engineering teams to develop and maintain an instrumentation capability to support certification of our revolutionary new aircraft design.
The successful candidate has direct experience participating in, developing, and maintaining instrumentation to support test execution on flight test aircraft.
You will understand the importance of effective instrumentation in the development lifecycle of an aircraft or UAS.
- Install, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot bespoke instrumentation installations on our one-of-a-kind Gen 6 aircraft to ensure we obtain the correct data every time.
- Assist Flight Test Instrumentation Engineering with the design of data systems, including sensor selection, to support certification test efforts.
- Perform pre-test and post-test instrumentation system checkouts and calibrations.
- Assist with post-test data processing.
- Support effective risk management in all aspects of your job.
- Work with our engineering and our partners to utilize their skills and knowledge to minimize risk to the program.
- Work closely with the product teams to assist them in identifying needs to support instrumentation.
- Develop new tools and procedures to support our instrumentation activities.
Skills and Qualifications
- Experience installing, maintaining, and calibrating data collection systems on experimental aircraft including sensors and their wire harnesses (such as surface-mounted strain gauges, accelerometers, temperature sensors, and VDTs)
- Experience building, terminating, and installing connectors on instrumentation wiring harnesses for experimental test aircraft.
- Experience with data telemetry systems and their operation.
- Experience and applied knowledge of instrumenting complex aviation systems.
- Demonstrated a high level of personnel leadership capabilities in a fast-paced product development environment.
- Have recognized qualifications in an engineering discipline, technical discipline or have demonstrated sufficient on-the-job experience to undertake the role.
- Been exposed to a clean sheet development of instrumentation for an aircraft certification program.
- Have experience working on a battery-powered aircraft and understanding of the unique elements of its operations compared to conventionally powered vehicles.
- Previous experience with unmanned aerial systems, the heavier and more complex the better.
- Exposure to autonomous capabilities in air vehicles would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of battery systems as a source of propulsion and associated instrumentation suites.
- Experience working with Safran XMA products Experience conducting test activities with certifying agencies such as FAA / TCCA / EASA
