DESCRIPTION
Responsible for providing daily care, feeding, and enrichment activities for a variety of species, while also ensuring the cleanliness and safety of animal enclosures.
With a passion for wildlife conservation and animal welfare, Zoo Keepers contribute to the zoo's mission of education and public engagement by sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm with visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Zoology, Biology, Animal Sciences, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One year of experience in animal care at an AZA or equivalent facility, gained through employment, internships, or volunteer experience is preferred.
- Passion for wildlife conservation and animal welfare.
- Valid Texas Driver's License
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of animal behavior, nutrition, and health.
- Ability to provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (minimum of 25-75 pounds), work outdoors in various weather conditions, and stand for extended periods.
- Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings as needed.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Provide daily care for animals including feeding, cleaning, and monitoring health.
- Maintain and clean animal enclosures, ensuring they meet safety and hygiene standards.
- Create and implement enrichment programs to stimulate natural behaviors.
- Collaborate with veterinarians for health assessments and treatments.
- Participate in animal behavioral observations and record-keeping.
- Educate visitors about the animals, conservation efforts, and wildlife welfare.
- Ensure the Zoo complies with all federal, state, and other applicable laws, statutes, and regulations governing the collection, exhibition, and care of wild and / or exotic animals (USDA, TPWD, AZA, etc.).
- Responds to emergency calls after normal operating hours.
- Other duties as assigned.
