THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated Mid-Level Naval Architect to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)’s Ship Design Team in Baltimore, MD .

An ideal candidate will have prior experience with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations.

Typical Responsibilities :

  • Provide technical support and documentation for ship feasibility, concept, preliminary and contract design, integration, stability analysis, hydrodynamic and seakeeping properties.
  • Evaluate systems and equipment, develop and analyze requirements, perform studies and documentation relating to hull form, stability, weights, structures, and design.
  • Develop system documentation and ship specifications for surface assets and boats, perform structural analysis and design using ISO and class society standards.
  • Conduct analyses on stability studies, assist with inclining experiments and weight and stability tests, and oversee design development.

Location : Full time onsite at USCG Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC) in Baltimore, MD. May be limited "local remote" flexibility with customer approval.

Travel : Up to 10% travel is anticipated for ship checks.

Typical Pay Range : The anticipated pay range for this position in the identified location(s) is $80,000 110,000. Actual compensation offered will be based upon individual factors including education, qualifications, and experience.

US Citizenship Required : Due to the requirements of the federal contract that this position supports, U.S. citizenship is required.

Citizenship will be confirmed via I-9 / E-Verify at the start of employment.

Typical Physical Activity : Primarily desk / computer work in an office environment. May involve : repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront / shipboard environments.

May involve : traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.

Security Clearance Eligibility Required : This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must either already possess an active or interim Secret security clearance (preferred);

OR be eligible for a Secret security clearance upon hire.

Typical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or another relevant technical, engineering, or a marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • At least three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in Naval Architecture.
  • Experience related to U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs preferred.
  • Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs preferred.
  • Experience with computer applications relating to naval architecture and ship design.
  • Experience with corrosion principles of metals for surface assets and boats.
  • Familiarity with USN, USCG, IACS and / or commercial ship design rules and regulations.
  • Proficient with common productivity software.
  • Strong communications skills.
