Job Description

ROLE OVERVIEW :

As the Senior Director of Secondary Multilingual Program, you will play a pivotal role in developing comprehensive multilingual education initiatives within secondary education settings that transform the academic outcomes for emergent bilingual KIPPsters and our newcomer / SIFE students.

Leading a team of up to five regional directors, you will ensure that our statewide multilingual strategy is implemented every day in KIPP Texas classrooms.

Working with your directors, you will develop plans for implementing and monitoring research-based multilingual instructional strategies across multiple campuses state-wide.

Your expertise in multilingual pedagogy and instructional coaching will support your directors in their coaching of content-based language instruction to drive exceptional student outcomes.

Your collaboration with stakeholders will positively impact the expansion and sustainability of multilingual education initiatives.

Reporting to the Managing Director of Multilingual Education, you will play a pivotal role in supporting KIPP Texas classrooms, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

Significant emergent bilingual student growth and achievement

100% of schools in your portfolio achieve an A or B rating

100% of schools in your portfolio achieve the Domain III TELPAS growth measure.

100% of schools in your portfolio achieve 90 / 75 / 40 on the Reading STAAR, with minimal gaps between EBs and non-EBs.

100% of schools in your portfolio achieve 90 / 75 / 40 on the Math STAAR, with minimal gaps between EBs and non-EBs.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Visioning : You lead and develop a vision for transformational secondary multilingual programs, including newcomer / SIFE support systems.

You can translate multilingual program frameworks to support language acquisition and cultural awareness by coaching a team of multilingual experts as they coach campus leaders.

Effective Team Leader : You lead and develop a high-performing team to drive transformational achievement and linguistic outcomes through side-by-side coaching and progress monitoring.

Effectively support your directors in leading effective professional learning opportunities, observing classroom instruction, and providing actionable feedback to deans of multilingual and school leaders.

Instructional Expert : You have demonstrated expertise in newcomer and content based language programs and instruction. You have experience effectively implementing KIPP Texas’s chosen curricular products and how to tailor them to support language acquisition and cultural awareness.

Stakeholder Engagement : Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and families to ensure the effective implementation of multilingual programs.

Establish partnerships with community organizations, language experts, and cultural institutions to enrich program offerings and resources.

Skills

Lead a high-performing team that delivers outcomes for emergent bilingual students

Manage, lead, and develop a high-performing team of 4 director-level content-based language instruction coaches who are driving student achievement and language acquisition in KIPP schools across Texas

Drive results, including progress tracking, monitoring, and reporting. Hold the team accountable for short- and long-term outcomes

Exhibit outstanding critical thinking skills, including the ability to analyze data, identify trends, pinpoint root causes, ask probing questions, and develop innovative solutions

Exhibit a strong focus on goals, accountability, and results; set clear metrics for success

Lead effectively even in times of ambiguity and adapt and respond to unexpected challenges

Coach others to implement the multilingual strategy

Possess a deep understanding of multilingual frameworks, pedagogy, and high-quality instructional materials; experience implementing high-quality instructional materials for a wide variety of grade levels and subjects to support language acquisition and cultural awareness.

Demonstrate strong knowledge of research-based newcomer and CBLI strategies and the ability to lead others to implement these strategies consistently across classrooms and school sites

Lead and manage multilingual coaches in their implementation of the statewide multilingual strategy by building the team’s day-to-day workflow and coaching teammates to execute that strategy

Engage in continuous data analysis and action planning

Support multilingual coaches in progress monitoring actions that drive improvement in the areas of data-driven culture, curriculum implementation, and content-based language instruction that lead to teacher impact

Craft and support the execution of school, regional, and organization-wide improvement plans in response to emergent bilingual data

Engage in side-by-side coaching with multilingual coaches as they coach leaders and teachers on effective daily data practices to monitor emergent bilingual student performance

Analyze school-specific data to identify trends and support the development of response plans

Confidently speaking to formative student outcome data across campuses to support leaders in ongoing coaching and response plans

Progress monitor state and federal guidelines and policies

Ensure that all state and federal guidelines are implemented across secondary schools by working collaboratively with KTX compliance director and regional directors of primary multilingual programs

Organize Title III engagement activities to increase and strengthen the family, parent, and community connections and supports to emergent bilingual learners

Support KIPP teachers in acquiring required Bilingual and ESL certification with the support of the HR and talent teams

Oversee the organizations Secondary Newcomer program with campus onboarding, ELDA / ESOL, international transcript analysis, placement support, and graduation plans

Collaborate with senior director of assessments and director of multilingual compliance to monitor state-wide TELPAS execution

Qualifications

Required Education and / or Experience :

Successful candidates must demonstrate a deep belief in the capacity of all emergent bilingual students to achieve at high levels, demonstrate strong expertise in multilingual programming, and have the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse set of leaders and teachers to improve emergent bilingual student achievement and linguistic progress. Additionally,

Bachelor’s degree, relevant Master’s degree or higher in Education, Linguistics, Multilingual Education, or a related field preferred

Minimum of 3 years experience as a successful District ESL / Newcomer Program Coordinator / Program Manager or Multilingual Secondary Coach

Preference will be given to candidates with experience leading newcomer and content-based language programs

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience implementing the following high-quality instructional materials :

Math : Eureka Texas and Carnegie Learning

ELA : Amplify Texas, Amplify ELAR Texas, and HMH Into Learning

Exceptional ability to translate instructional expertise into effective coaching of others

Exceptional strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands and solve complex problems

Exceptional leadership judgment with the ability to navigate ambiguity and complex situations

High self-awareness, humility, and integrity

This role will spend significant time in KIPP Texas schools with hybrid work options when not in classrooms

Typical office environment with frequent interruptions

Travel Requirements :

Ability to travel to various locations : travel time will range between 20% - 60% depending on the time of year.

Salary is based on years of experience, degree of education, and level of expertise.
