Technical Writer
Technical Writer to support the Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS). The DS is the security and law enforcement arm of the U.
S. Department of State. DS is a world leader in international investigations, threat analysis, cyber security, counterterrorism, security technology, and protection of people, property, and information.
Its primary mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for the conduct of U.S. foreign policy. The Office of Security Technology (ST) supports the DS mission through the application and use of appropriate technical security countermeasures.
This program requires US Citizenship.
Responsibilities :
- Research and gather information from documents such as rough drafts and manufacturer’s manuals and / or by interviewing subject matter experts as needed to complete writing assignments.
- Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and work instructions by interviewing subject matter experts as required.
- Document product development from cradle to grave.
- Format, edit, standardize, proofread, and correct information and ideas written by engineers and technicians, in accordance with set standards and arrange it in an understandable and logical order.
- Review publications and propose refinements to content or format.
- Track the development of technical material from the initial draft to final approval and publication.
- Maintain document version control, revision, and approval records.
- Recommend and implement document standards, quality controls and content requirements.
- Create and modify presentations as well as create data visualizations
Professional Qualifications / Skills :
- Must possess a bachelor’s in related discipline or advanced degree where required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess five years’ experience employed as a technical writer and have a mastery of the English language, including grammar, structure, punctuation, and word spelling;
Must be proficient in the current Microsoft Word, Microsoft SharePoint, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft PowerPoint
- Must have direct experience writing technical documents for the Government or a Government contractor and knowledge of the requirements for safeguarding classified information.
- Must be proficient in current Microsoft Office Suite to include Outlook, Word, Excel, and SharePoint programs.
Position Details :
- Pay Rate / Range : $50.00 to $60.00 an hour
- The above salary range represents the range expected for the position; however, final salary offers are based on a number of factors such as the position’s responsibilities;
the candidate’s experience, education, and skills; location; travel required; and current market conditions.
