Moreau Catholic High School, a coeducational high school in the Holy Cross tradition, is currently seeking a dynamic and experienced counselor .

Founded in 1965 under the sponsorship of the Congregation of Holy Cross, Moreau Catholic High School emphasizes college-preparatory excellence in all programs designed to facilitate the informative, formative, and transformative needs of the individual student.

Located approximately 25 miles southeast of San Francisco, in Hayward, California, the school is accredited by the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

With 784 students, the co-educational student body reflects the rich ethnic and cultural diversity of the Bay Area, and the school has enjoyed a 99% collegiate matriculation.

Our graduating seniors have been accepted into 1,000+ universities and colleges yearly, and have garnered, on average, between $11-14 million in scholarships and grants.

POSITION DESCRIPTION :

Promote student success utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration; provide preventive services and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive counseling plan that addresses academic, college, career, and personal social development.

The position will be assigned to college coordination, information, and advisement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs; assist students in developing a greater ability to cope with and solve problems, and increase competence in making decisions and plans for which the student is responsible.
  • Consult and collaborate effectively with parents / guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational / community resources regarding students with identified needs and concerns;

hold conferences with parents and act as a resource regarding the growth and development of the student. Assist students and parents in identifying and obtaining the services of public and private agencies in the community when issues require more intensive intervention.

  • Participate in the development of student schedules and assist in the completion of the master schedule through individual meetings with students.
  • Assist students with developing academic, career, and personal / social skills, goals, and plans; acquaint students and parents with college entrance requirements and help to make a realistic comparison between the student’s record and abilities, and the specific entrance requirements of the college / university.
  • Maintain familiarity with current college admissions requirements and scholarship / financial aid information, and current career education / testing information;

aid students with all the processes of college applications.

  • Assist in maintaining the Resource Center with effective and convenient access to up-to-date information on colleges. Collaborate with the Office of Advancement regarding college placement statistics.
  • Maintain up-to-date log entries on students and reports for the department Chair; maintain confidentiality to the extent possible and in accordance with school policy.
  • Attend and collaborate with Back to School Night, Scheduling Night, and other college presentations.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

EDUCATION AND / OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

Bachelor’s degree in school counseling, clinical counseling, psychology, or a related field; a minimum of 48 semester hours post-baccalaureate work and practicum with school children;

3 years experience as a school guidance counselor, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree and private / non-profit school experience preferred.

  • Current Pupil Personnel Services credential required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Ability to establish cooperative, tactful, effective, and harmonious working relationships with a diverse group of individuals, ranging from students, parents, senior management, administration, board members, corporate leaders, faculty, staff, volunteers, and the general public.

Use discretion and tact when responding to sensitive matters or situations.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate counseling records.
  • Ability to use and interpret data regarding students’ concerns and needs including educational, career, emotional, personal, and social development.
  • Salary range : $61,745 - $116,850
