Pay : $31.75 - $36.75 an hour

Position Summary :

The fabrication technician uses specialized equipment, such as metal welding or soldering tools, to build components for a variety of products.

As a fabrication technician, your duties are also to repair and provide maintenance on mechanical equipment, perform routine inspections of the tools and equipment, and train people on how to care for the machines that we use in our production centers.

What you will Do :

• Follow good manufacturing practices, personal protective equipment requirements, and safety guidelines.
• Knowledge and understanding of how to maintain a safe work environment
• Works safely around moving equipment and conveyors in wet environment
• Comply with SQF Regulatory Programs
• Maintain a clean work area.
• Must be knowledgeable in equipment safety requirements as they apply to equipment moving and installation.
• Must have working knowledge of basic Protective Equipment Requirements as they apply to maintenance personnel.
• Must be knowledgeable in equipment Lock-Out / Tag-Out requirements. Must not by-pass Safety Devices
• Must be knowledgeable in the proper use of portable fire extinguishers.
• Must be knowledgeable of safe lifting techniques, and expected to ask for help if the item to move is too heavy.
• Must use Slip-resistant footwear due to nature of environment : Wet floors, cold and probably some icing / debris.
• Must use / wear / follow PPE, and GMP compliance as needed, including but not limited to : Hair / Bear net,
• Boots, Clean Smock, Waterproof Rubber Gloves, Plastic sleeves, cut resistant gloves, eye & hearing
• Protection, face shield, PPE to handle Chemicals when applicable, etc
• Must be aware of potential hazards as : Paper / knife cuts, Slip / falls due to wet floors, Pinch
• Points / Contusions, Chemical exposure (chlorine), Back / Arms / Legs sprains.
• Prepares working plans and materials for constructive or repair welding from drawings, Blueprints or other written specifications by selecting appropriate metal
• materials and welding rods, and laying out, measuring and drawing guidelines on metal materials such as pipe, tubing or sheets of nickel, brass, aluminum, stainless steel and various irons.
• Cuts, grinds, bends or drills metals into various shapes by selecting appropriate torch tips, and adjusting and directing a metal lathe, metal bender or the flame of a hand-held or stationary oxygen / gas or arc cutting torch.
• Fabricates unique or prototype equipment or component parts and modifies existing equipment by selecting the appropriate welding machine or torch, rods and torch tips, adjusting valves, electrical currents and other variable factors according to the type of metal used.
• Soldering, brazing or welding prepared metal materials using standard or precision arc-air, arc or gas methods.
• Repairs or reconstructs defective, damaged, fatigued or worn metal equipment, fixtures, Or component parts of equipment using appropriate welding or soldering techniques and equipment.
• Adjusts, cleans and makes minor repairs to assigned cutting and welding tools / equipment as necessary in order to maintain tools / equipment in operating condition.
• Receives instructions, prints, and work orders for the job and plans details of work, procedure, tools, man-hours and material required.
• Uses burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut material to size and shape.
• Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly.
• May be assigned to dismantle or cut up obsolete machinery, setting aside parts for scrap dealers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

• GED / High School Diploma.
• Two - three years of Full-time welding experience OR Successful completion of an approved welder apprenticeship program in lieu of the required experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to read, write and speak English; comprehension of basic math.
• Basic computer skills and ability to multitask.
• Willingness and flexibility to work in a cold, wet, fast-paced, 24 hour plant environment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, ability to climb stairs numerous times a day.
• Knowledge of the proper use and care of materials and assigned tools / equipment such as gas shielded arc welders, acetylene, oxygen or arc-cutting torches, welding rods and torch tips, plasma cutters and related components.
• Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions related to the welding trade including the

proper use and care of safety equipment such as hoods, goggles and ventilation equipment.

• Knowledge of the standard and precision methods of welding and metal fabrication including arc and Gas welding, cutting, brazing, soldering and metal working.
• Knowledge of metallurgy and heat treatment as they relate to the strength and use of various combinations of flame and metal.
• Ability to plan designs and determine appropriate sizes and shapes of materials to use in metal fabrication or repair of fixtures and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, sketches or technical drawings in order to determine the appropriate methods to use in fabricating, modifying or repairing fixtures and equipment as intended by the requestor or manufacturer.
• Displays a high level of initiative, effort and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently, with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to travel to other plants to install and / or modify equipment - up to 40% or as needed.
• Able to function in a team environment where continuous improvement is expected through communication and cooperation.
• Must be willing and able to contribute to and implement department programs, procedures and systems as needed.
• Must be able to qualify for forklift, and scissors lift driver license.
