Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) supports Johns Hopkins focus on research, teaching and patient care, and its role as a national and global leader in higher education.

We create and foster enduring relationships that result in advocacy and philanthropic support for Johns Hopkins University & Medicine;

strengthening the institution through partnerships with donors, alumni, volunteer leaders, faculty, students, staff, and patients.

Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a hybrid work arrangement with an onsite presence of 3 days per week.

The manager will confirm the teams core onsite days where the majority / all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.

The Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine (FJHM) is the dedicated development and alumni relations team supporting the entities that comprise Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM), including clinical departments, hospitals, satellite clinics, and the School of Medicine.

We contribute to Johns Hopkins Medicines mission of patient care, research, and education through securing philanthropy, building and maintaining donor and alumni relationships, and supporting institutional priorities.

FJHM partners closely with institutional leaders, faculty, and clinicians to engage alumni, patients, donors, and prospects in JHMs work to advance medicine and improve the human condition.

The Assistant Director of Development will oversee the strategic planning, implementation, and management of high-end annual and occasional major gift fundraising initiatives to support the Brady Urological Institutes faculty and programmatic priorities.

This role entails building and maintaining strong relationships with a diverse group of donors, including friends, grateful patients, alumni, and foundations.

Collaborating with senior development staff, faculty, administrators, and volunteer leaders across Johns Hopkins, the Assistant Director will be responsible for identifying, strategizing, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of prospects to achieve fundraising goals.

The Assistant Director will serve as the primary development liaison to faculty specializing in adult and pediatric reconstructive and benign urology.

Finally, they will serve as the liaison to the Bradys alumni community, building and maintaining relationships to foster a culture of philanthropy and involvement.

Key responsibilities :

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the research, teaching, and clinical programs and priorities of Johns Hopkins University, the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, and the Brady Urological Institute to effectively represent these needs both internally and externally.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 100125 prospects and donors, aiming to personally solicit, or arrange for volunteer or institutional solicitation of annual and occasional major gifts to fund the priority needs of the Brady and its mission.

The primary focus will be on gifts of $10,000 or more, along with occasional annual-fund level contributions.

Serve as the primary development liaison to a group of 35 urology faculty members and their care teams. Hold recurring meetings to encourage faculty participation in development activities, secure faculty referrals, identify and evaluate giving potential of prospects, and coordinate faculty participation in prospect solicitations and stewardship.

Develop a working knowledge of faculty academic activities and funding priorities while keeping the development team up-to-date.

Complete 75 or more substantive actions and 60 or more meaningful prospect and donor visits (in-person or virtually) per year.

Performance targets also include benchmarks for funds raised, proposals developed and submitted, among others.

Create opportunities to expand the Bradys alumni relations program with the goal of building connections, strengthening the community, promoting the achievements and work of alumni, and growing philanthropic support for the department.

Maintain accurate contact records for alumni population.

  • Manage comprehensive stewardship and engagement efforts to attract and retain donors, strengthen relationships with donors and alumni, express gratitude, demonstrate the impact of gifts, and increase giving.
  • Prepare proposals, outreach and solicitation letters, and other cultivation and informational material for prospects and donors.
  • Learn and fully utilize all development systems and procedures of Johns Hopkins University and the Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine, such as JHAS.
  • Represent the Brady and the Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine in internal and external committees, cohorts, advisory groups, and other institutional and industry groups as appropriate.
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of major development events including meetings, professorship dedications, virtual seminars, and donor recognition events, as needed.
  • Maintain an active role within the DAR / FJHM team, collaborate with colleagues, and participate in meetings and committees for the benefit of Johns Hopkins University and Medicine.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years related experience.
  • Additional graduate level education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently, manage and prioritize multiple projects, and maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Excellent writing, editorial and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Experience working with broadly diverse groups of constituents such as donors, alumni, patients, faculty, department directors, hospital and university administration, fundraising colleagues and / or institutional leadership preferred.
  • Strong computer literacy skills with the ability to learn new software, as well as familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated initiative, diplomacy and a cooperative work ethic within a professional team.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of Johns Hopkins Medicine and / or development operations highly desirable.
  • Ability to travel and work occasional evening or weekend hours.

Total Rewards

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins Universitys salary range for this position.

Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education / training and other qualifications.

Education and Experience Equivalency

Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines : JHU Equivalency Formula : 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.

Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education / experience required for the respective job.
