About this Role
The Protection and Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining protection and control systems for electric power systems, including substation protection systems.
They will have extensive knowledge of protection and control system components, including relays, circuit breakers, transformers, and instrument transformers.
The engineer will also be responsible for analyzing and evaluating protection systems to ensure compliance with industry standards and to improve system reliability.
PES is looking for someone who is willing to take lead and develop processes with PES Engineering Management to grow P&C capabilities of engineering department.
Location : Dallas / Fort Worth San Antonio / Austin Greater Houston
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and implement protection and control systems for electrical distribution.
- Perform engineering studies to determine the appropriate settings and configurations for protective devices to ensure system stability and reliability.
- Conduct fault analysis and protection coordination studies to identify and correct system vulnerabilities.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards related to protection and control systems.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Supervise junior engineers and technicians in the design, installation, and maintenance of protection and control systems.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong knowledge of protection and control system components, including relays, circuit breakers, transformers, and instrument transformers.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to protection and control systems, such as IEEE and NERC standards.
- Experience with SCADA systems and software.
- Versed in Allen-Bradley PLC Programmable Controller products and software.
- Familiar with common system analysis and control software such as SEL AcSELerator QuickSet, Digital Substation Integration (DIGSI), GE Multilin EnerVista Software Suite, etc.
- Ability to perform Short-Circuit, Coordination, and Arcflash studies with analysis software such as ETAP, SKM, etc.
