Job Description and Duties

Under the administrative direction of the Associate Warden, the Captain of Custody Operations plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates the program of the central custodial functions including but not limited to : Watch office functions, Lock Shop, Personnel Assignments, Inmate Assignments, Camps, Receiving & Release, Central Control, Towers, Perimeter Security and Gates, maintains the overall security of the Institution and surrounding state property.

The Captain Custody Operations also provides management oversight and direction to the Forestry Camp Program, Fire & life Safety, facility cleanliness, organization planning and management, and other duties as assigned by the Associate Warden.

The Captain, Custody Operations serves as liaison between the institution and local law enforcement agencies, oversight responsibility for parole violator reception center readmission process preparation of cases received pursuant to PC 1203.

This position functions as the Chief Disciplinary Officer when needed and sits as a member of the Institution Classification Committee.

This position is responsible for total institutional perimeter security, including fence line security, gate security, tower and post security and security of the surrounding State property.

This position directly supervises Correctional Counselor II (CCII) of Camps.

  • Limited term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.
  • Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

Working Conditions

This is a Correctional Institution open 24 hours / 7days a week, all positions will be office centered.

Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

Candidates new to CDCR are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing / evaluation thereafter.
