Outpatient Registered Nurse - RN
PURPOSE AND SCOPE :
The professionalregistered nurse Outpatient RN CAP 1 is an entry level designationinto the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP).
This position isaccountable and responsible for the provision and coordination ofclinically competent care including assessment, planning,intervention and evaluation for an assigned group of patients.
Thismay include delegation of appropriate tasks to direct patient carestaff including but not limited to RNs, LVN / LPNs and Patient CareTechnicians.
As a member of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD)health care team, this position participates in decision-making,teaching, leadership functions, and quality improvement activitiesthat enhance patient care outcomes and facilityoperations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Allduties and responsibilities are expected to be performed inaccordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policy, procedures, standardsof nursing practice, state and federal regulations.
- Performs all essential functions under thedirection of the Supervisor and with guidance from the ClinicalEducator, Preceptor or in collaboration with other RegisteredNurses.
- Performs ongoing, systematic collectionand analysis of patient data pre - during - post hemodialysistreatment for assigned patients and documents in the patientmedical record, makes adjustments or modifications to treatmentplan as indicated and notifies Team Leader, Charge Nurse,Supervisor or Physician as needed.
- Assesses,collaborates, and documents patient / family's basic learning needsto provide initial and ongoing education to patients andfamily.
- Directs and provides, in collaborationwith direct and ancillary patient care staff, all aspects of thedaily provision of safe and effective delivery of hemodialysistherapy to assigned patients.
- Administersmedications as prescribed or in accordance with approvedalgorithm(s), and documents appropriate medical justification andeffectiveness.
- Initiates or assists withemergency response measures.
- Serves as aresource for health care team, participates in staff training andorientation of new staff as assigned.
- Ensurescorrect laboratory collection, processing and shipping proceduresare performed and reschedules missed or insufficient laboratorycollections.
- Identifies expected outcomes,documents and updates the nursing assessment and plan of care forassigned patients through collaboration with the InterdisciplinaryTeam.
- Ensures patient awareness related totransplant and treatment modalityoptions.
- Required to complete CAP requirementsto advance.
- Performs all other duties asassigned by Supervisor.

The positionprovides direct patient care that regularly involves heavy lifting,moving of patients and assisting with ambulation.

- Thisposition requires frequent, prolonged periods of standing and theemployee must be able to bend over.
- Theemployee may occasionally be required to move, with assistance,machines and equipment of up to 200 lbs., and may lift chemical andwater solutions of up to 30 lbs. as high as 5feet.
- The work environment is characteristic ofa health care facility with air temperature control and moderatenoise levels.
- May be exposed to infectious andcontagious diseases / materials.
- Day to day workincludes desk work, computer work, interaction with patients,facility / hospital staff and physicians.
- Theposition may require travel to training sites or otherfacilities.
- May be asked to provide essentialfunctions of this position in other locations with the samephysical demands and working conditions as describedabove.

SUPERVISION :
Assigned oversight of Patient Care Technicians / LPNs / LVNs / RNs as aTeam Leader or designated Nurse in Charge, after meeting all thefollowing :
- Successful completion of all FKCeducation and training requirements for newemployees.
- Must have a minimum of 9 monthsexperience as a RN.
- Must have a minimum of 3months experience in chronic / acute hemodialysis as aRN.
EDUCATION andLICENSURE :
- Graduate of anaccredited School of Nursing.
- Currentappropriate state licensure.
- Current orsuccessful completion of CPR BLSCertification.
- Must meet the practicerequirements in the state in which he or she isemployed.
EXPERIENCE ANDREQUIRED SKILLS :
- Entry levelfor RNs with less than 1 year of Nephrology Nursing experience inthe last two years as a RN.
- Minimum of 9 monthsexperience as a Registered Nurse(preferred).
- Chronic / acute hemodialysisexperience (preferred).
