We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Senior Financial Accountant to join our team!
Working under minimal supervision, responsible for the more complex activities associated with the general accounting and the financial reporting function.
Responsible for assisting in the ledger close process, balance sheet account reconciliations, improvement of internal control environment and financial reporting to external regulatory agencies for Medicaid, Medicare and CHIP line of businesses (DOI, DHS and CMS).
Responsible for assisting in analyzing trends, expenses / costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses for the company’s lines of businesses.
Provides management with financial reports, analysis and offers suggestions about resource utilization and assumptions underlying budget to actual forecasts for each of the company’s lines of business.
Perform independent technical research. Provide functional advice or training to less-experienced accounting staff.
As the Senior Financial Accountant, your daily duties may include :
- Coordinate the preparation of the monthly financial statement and ledger closing process for HPP lines of business to ensure timely financial close process including :
- Preparation, posting and review of monthly journal entries into ledger accounting software; maintain monitor journal entries and checklist including assigned cash and administrative accounts.
Maintain monthly journal entry checklist.
- Perform, develop and prepare account analysis of various general ledger accounts;
- Prepare quarterly balance sheet account reconciliations including analysis and investigation of variances.
- Coordinate and work with internal audit on HPP and Finance team internal control monitoring of key Finance related business processes (Financial Reporting, Claims, Premium, Reinsurance);
- Coordinate and work with external auditors to provide all necessary documentation for year-end statutory and GAAP basis audits for Company and parent organization.
- Prepare, coordinate and perform analysis on various quarterly and annual regulatory and compliance reporting including : Department of Insurance (DOI) statutory health statements and reports, Department of Health (DOH) reports, CMS reports;
and Department of Human Services (DHS) financial reports.
- Coordinate and foster relationships with internal business partners providing technical expertise and knowledge of financial applications related to accounting and financial reporting.
- Represent Finance at meetings with business partners regarding business and financial reporting initiatives and projects.
Perform financial analysis and research in support of various Company reporting requirements.
- Interact with all departments, specifically : Actuary, Claims, Pharmacy, UM, Medical Affairs, Information Systems, Internal Audit and Human Resources to coordinate additional information necessary for monthly close and regulatory reporting.
- Provide input to Accounting Manager and work with team members to meet or exceed reporting requirements and functional objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the VP / Controller and Accounting Manager.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with a minimum of 4 years related accounting experience.
- Prior public accounting experience is a plus.
- Prior healthcare and insurance experience is a plus.
- Prior Statutory Accounting and or internal audit experience is a plus.
- CPA designation or candidate is a plus.
