Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is seeking to hire Co-Director of Student Elections. The primary mission of this role is the facilitation of undergraduate student elections through a fair and efficient elections process as provided for in the Statutes of the Associated Students.

Additionally, the director will enhance the student’s understanding of a career in public service and instill in students a deep sense of leadership and civic responsibility that contributes to the development of engaged citizens.

The director will also assist in the execution of educational Democratic Engagement programming.

Through involvement within ASUN and the Center for Student Engagement, students will be better prepared to :

Cognitive Complexity

The Student Employee can diagnose problems, generate and choose between multiple solutions, and evaluate outcomes.

The Student Employee can transform information into knowledge, use the knowledge to make a judgment, and then make purposeful actions.

Interpersonal Competence

The Student Employee can develop an understanding of group dynamics and effective teamwork.

Humanitarianism and Civic Engagement

The Student Employee can recognize the importance of and actively seek contributions from those with differing perspectives.

The Student Employee can explain how government functions and interacts with constituents.

Knowledge Acquisition, Construction, Integration, and Application

The Student Employee understand the importance of and work to develop professional relationships with constituents, staff, faculty, peers, etc.

Intrapersonal Development

The Student Employee can gather and analyze information in order to formulate opinions on issues that affect my constituents.

Practical Competence

The Student Employee can understand and apply rules and protocols set forth in all governing documents.

Note : By applying for this position, you are considered a candidate for the position and must meet the requirements of eligibility for employment by the Center for Student Engagement.

Requirements include a minimum GPA of 2.00 and currently enrolled in 15 credit hours. If hired, you must successfully complete 30 hours per academic year to stay on track toward graduation.

Responsibilities

The Director of Student Elections and Democratic Engagement will :

Develop short-term and long-term strategies that enhance voter engagement

Conduct the mandatory candidates meeting to inform all candidates regarding the elections process and guidelines

Work with the Attorney General to facilitate the ASUN Primary and General Elections

Ensure adherence to the Statues of the Associated Students throughout the elections process

Work with CSE staff to develop and implement voter registration strategies

Develop and implement educational presentations to encourage student participation in ASUN, local, state, and national elections

Develop strategies to increase the participation of historically underrepresented groups in the elections and voting processes

Required Qualifications

Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno

Candidate must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, organized and creative problem solver

Candidate must have a commitment to inclusion, social justice, and equity

Candidate must have the ability to passionately speak with others

Candidate must adhere to the following guidelines :

Maintain a 2.00 GPA and successfully pass 30 credit / year.

Perform all duties and instructions outlined in the ASUN Governing Documents for elections.

Uphold the Nevada Student Code of Conduct.

Meet all deadlines set forth.

Attend all required meetings and trainings.

Work scheduled hours.

Properly complete and submit HR paperwork on time.

Assist in the promotion of the mission of the Center for Student Engagement.

Behave in a manner that is ethical, maintaining a high level of integrity.

Refrain from engaging in situations that create a conflict of interest.

Schedule

Expected hours to work per week : 10-15

The Associated Students of the University of Nevada is made up of every undergraduate student at the University of Nevada.

ASUN provides a means for students to voice concerns and address issues at the university, local, state, national, and international levels.

The ASUN Center for Student Engagement works collaboratively with ASUN, the office of the Associate Vice President for Student Life and the division of Student Services to engage, educate and empower undergraduate students to take action in the best interests of the student body and the University community.
