Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon (PPSO) has been dedicated to providing expert reproductive health care and sexuality education in Southwestern Oregon for over 55 years.

PPSO provides more than 30,000 patient visits each year at four health centers and via telehealth. PPSO is also regarded as the region’s most respected provider of medically accurate sexuality education for young people and adults, as well as training programs for professionals who work with youth and families.

Education and training programs make over 10,000 contacts each year, transforming the lives of young people in southwestern Oregon.

PPSO’s essential health services include breast and cervical cancer screenings, well-woman annual exams, birth control, abortion care, LGBTQ+ health, STI prevention, testing and treatment, pregnancy testing, PrEP (Pre-exposure prophylaxis), HPV vaccinations, vasectomies, and more.

Position Summary

The Associate Medical Director provides direct supervision to the Clinical Supervisor and is responsible for working in collaboration with the Medical Director and other PPSO management to provide leadership to clinic staff and ensure quality and compliance in clinic operations.

They will also provide direct patient care and work to support projects that close health equity gaps and improve patient experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Clinic Operation & Services

  • Assist with recruitment, hiring and retention of licensed staff members.
  • Work with Clinician Supervisor to facilitate onboarding, orientation and privileging for new licensed staff members.
  • Conduct Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) mandated clinical audits and provide timely feedback and mentoring.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director to conduct clinical investigation of adverse events to include root cause analysis, remediation, risk management and appropriate reporting and tracking.
  • Collaborate with regional management to conduct monthly reviews with licensed staff members as well as annual performance reviews and skills checks.
  • In collaboration with the Medical Director, expand clinical scope and establish new clinical programs to better achieve the Triple Aim (enhancing patient experience, improving population health, and reducing costs) and improving the work life of health care providers.
  • Adhere to affiliate goals and policies on professionalism, wait time in-clinic and on the phone, and the system for addressing patient complaints.
  • Perform basic laboratory functions (CLIA - moderate complexity).

Quality and Compliance

  • Work with Director of Affiliate Quality and Compliance to manage clinical safety, infection prevention and the maintenance of the environment of care and compliance with PPFA, OSHA, CLIA, and State procedures, policies, and regulations.
  • Assist in development of PPSO protocols, medical forms, and patient education materials and ensure compliance with all regulatory or funding program requirements.
  • Ensures pharmacy practices compliant with all related regulations at all health centers.
  • Consult with Patient Services Director, Director of Education and Learning, and clinical trainers to assure that HCA training, competency and continuous assessment are up to the highest clinical standard.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources department to ensure licenses, credentialing, immunizations, and other required documentation for clinic staff are accurate and up to date.

Leadership and Management

  • Clinical supervisory responsibilities of APCs, RNs, case management team (CMT), and those licensed for all affiliate locations.
  • Provide leadership, oversight and direction to the patient care training of non-licensed staff.
  • Collaborate with Patient Services management team to determine strategic, fiscal, and service-related goals including pilot programs;

participate in strategic planning, goal setting, budget process, and coordination of services for the Department.

  • Update and maintain a reference manual listing of medical consultants who are willing to care for clients referred from the PPSO health centers.
  • In partnership with the Medical Director, serve as a PPSO medical liaison with outside agencies.
  • Attend Planned Parenthood national and regional medical conferences, as approved and appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE :

Minimum Required Qualifications 0.6 FTE (24 hrs / wk)

Current State of Oregon licensure as a Physician (M.D.)

Minimum Required Qualifications 1.0 FTE (Full-Time)

  • Current State of Oregon licensure as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, or Physician's Assistant.
  • Minimum 3 years management experience in healthcare or clinical setting.
  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience treating a diverse patient load in the areas of reproductive health.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional skills including an advanced skill in charting efficiencies and requirements.
  • Experienced in reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical journals, medical reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond professionally to inquiries or complaints from patients, regulatory agencies, or members of the medical community.
  • Competent in Spanish health literacy.
  • Previous experience with health equity practices and / or study.
