Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to become proficient in college degree programs, general education core, specific program requirements, and ETSU’s policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of academic advisement process and best practices in higher education.
- Ability to lead in providing sound, ethical academic and career counseling.
- Ability to speak about programs and represent the college at various recruitment events.
- Ability to take initiative in developing relationships and planning recruitment events.
- Ability to collaborate and establish strong working relationships with students, administrators, faculty, staff, secondary schools, community colleges, and community partners.
- Ability to understand the needs of a diverse student body and offer holistic support.
- Ability to make decisions, think critically, analyze data, and develop appropriate recommendations.
- Ability to become proficient in the most commonly used ETSU advising tools including, but not limited to, Banner, GoldLink, Navigate, and Degree Works.
- Ability to become proficient in social media platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of emotional intelligence.
- Ability to actively listen and exhibit effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to speak publicly and lead presentations.
- Ability to read, understand, interpret, and accurately communicate policy, regulations, and rules.
- Ability to multitask, organize, and prioritize workload.

- Flexibility to work during some non-traditional hours (ex. nights and weekends).

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 2 years of experience working in a higher education environment, secondary school, recruitment or career counseling position, and / or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree.
- Experience in student success, student affairs, academic advising, admissions, recruitment, enrollment management, and / or related fields.
- 3 or more years of experience working in a higher education environment, secondary school, recruitment or career counseling position, and / or related field.
