Facilities Supervisor
Job Summary : Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church is looking for a full-time Facilities Supervisor to join our parish staff family.
The Facilities Supervisor is an experienced proactive and self-motivated leader with strong managerial, technical, communications and problem-solving skills.
This person reports to the Pastor and works closely with the Parochial School Principal and both their staffs. The Facilities Supervisor regularly assesses current facility conditions and needs, assists the pastor and school principal in envisioning and planning future building and construction projects, and oversees general maintenance, repair and custodial operations of the church, parochial school, rectory, and all permanent and temporary buildings, storage facilities and campus grounds to ensure the safe, clean, and well-functioning condition and operations of parish and school facilities.
Work Schedule : This is a twelve-month, full-time position. It may be expected that this position will work additional hours as needed, including evenings and weekends, to support all church needs.
Qualifications :
10+ years of building and grounds maintenance experience, including supervisory experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, and project-management abilities.
Team player who can build trustworthy relationships and collaborate promptly and effectively with fellow staff members, city officials, contractors, and volunteers.
Excellent working knowledge of all aspects of building systems; able to perform minor electrical, plumbing, machinery, and other mechanical equipment repair.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and city regulations impacting facility operations.
Basic computer and texting literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Experience working in a PreK - 7 school preferred.
Positive attitude toward the Catholic Church, her teachings, and her work. Refrains from public promotion or approval of, any conduct or lifestyle that would reflect discredit or disgrace on, or cause scandal in relationship to the Archdiocese of New Orleans or considered to be in contradiction with Catholic doctrines or morals.
Physical Requirement / Environmental Conditions :
Ability to push / lift 75 pounds.
Ability to climb ladder, work from scaffold and lift to 30 feet.
Bending at waist, sitting, kneeling, climbing, walking, crouching as job may require.
Ability to safely operate power tools and other equipment.
Ability to work in extreme outdoor temperatures.
Essential Functions :
A. Collaborates with the pastor, school principal, and other staff members to plan, prioritize, track, analyze, and execute maintenance and custodial activities.
Prepares an annual budget for parish and school.
B. Leads a small team of maintenance personnel.
C. Supervises all maintenance operations, including work performed by in-house custodial and maintenance staff and outside contractors to ensure high standards of workmanship, cleanliness, and safety that all tasks and obligations are completed on time in a routine and as required (work order) process.
D. Performs and / or supervises work related to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, safety and security systems, janitorial services, grounds maintenance, and fountain and sprinkler systems.
In consultation with the pastor, with input from the principal, determines work to perform in house and work to be contracted.
E. Coordinates all contracted services (cleaning, landscape, renovations, disaster recovery, mold remediation, etc.); Solicits bids, interviews contractors, and negotiates terms for outsourced maintenance or construction services.
Walks around areas of responsibility to evaluate performance. Meets with foreman routinely to sustain and / or adjust outcomes.
Provides regular status reports to pastor and school principal.
F. Establishes and tracks preventative maintenance programs for all systems and structures.
G. Receives from parish and school maintenance work-order requests. Reviews importance and urgency, prioritizes, determines costs, assigns jobs, or contracts services, orders materials, keeps end-user informed of progress, and ensures jobs are properly completed.
H. In collaboration with pastor, with input from the principal, develops and implements a routine preventative maintenance checks and services regimen to proactively insure mechanical, electrical, plumbing and telecommunications operates without fault or damage.
I. Establishes rapport and regularly interacts with city public works and permitting departments as required.
J. Develops daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, and long-term deferred maintenance plans for the parish and school and communicates specific tasks, standards, and timelines of completion to workers.
K. Prepares monthly time sheets for maintenance staff.
L. Works with parish finance team to develop and monitor the annual facilities budget.
M. In collaboration with the pastor and principal directs and oversees major renovation projects.
N. Coordinates event set up / take down.
O. Oversees purchasing of maintenance and supplies parts.
P. Responsible for compliance with Federal, State and Archdiocese maintenance and safety regulations, including maintaining the schools' asbestos management plans.
Q. Oversees and schedules annual certificate of fire alarm, security system, sprinkler system, and magnetic locks.
R. Fosters a spirit of excellence and teamwork within the maintenance department.
S. Attends and participates in staff and church committee meetings, as necessary.

Must pass background check and maintain compliance with Archdiocesan Safe Environment regulations.
