POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Center Coordinator, Prevention Navigators work in the Promise SSL afterschool programs at Granite Park Junior High and / or STEAM Exploration Community Center, with support and guidance from the Communities That Care (CTC) Coordinator.
Prevention Navigators work directly with youth and families from diverse backgrounds to provide prevention activities during the afterschool program while acting as a positive adult role model, coach, and mentor;
providing positive leadership and establishing a structured program to give PSSL program participants the stability and nurturing environment they need for growth and success.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Afterschool Program Prevention Facilitation (approximately 14 hrs. / week) :
1.1 Become familiar with, select prepared, write new, and implement hands-on and project-based
lesson plans and curriculum related to youth prevention.
1.2 Deliver at least 2 evidence-based prevention lessons per week.
1.3 Lead and supervise groups of youth and address behavior issues when they arise.
1.4 Collect accurate attendance and activity participation data.
1.5 Communicate successes and challenges regarding youth to direct supervisors.
1.6 Conduct pre- and post-surveys according to grant requirements.
1.7 Support daily programming operational needs (serving snack / dinner, maintaining cleanliness of
program spaces, etc.
2. Participate in GASMP Coalition Projects, Outreach, and Referrals (approximately 4 hrs. / week) :
2.1 Data collection and organization.
2.2 Monthly reporting, via scheduled check in meetings and / or Coalition Meetings.
2.3 Resource navigation and support with relevant referrals with the afterschool program
participant's families and local community members.
2.4 Community classes, events, and workshop support.
2.5 Hold a role within the GASMP Coalition, attending and participating in monthly meetings.
3. Other duties as assigned.
Due to the nature of this position, the applicant must successfully pass an initial criminal background check, subsequent checks and continuously meet the requirements of the Bureau of Criminal Identification.
