Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Equity Programs, EOP Sr. Associate Director, and EOP Associate Director, the incumbent provides a range of comprehensive academic advising and counseling services to students.

Coordinates several access and retention services to ensure success. Provides timely interventions to students who are in academic warning, murky-middle and major exploration.

Furthermore, this position is responsible for providing services that are equitable, inclusive and provide culturally sensitive services that enhance the quality of campus life, retention, and graduation rate.

This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide generalist academic advising, personal, and career counseling to all EOP & Promise to the Beach students.
  • Coordinate workshops and engagement activities - Provide workshops related to academic success (time management, budget, soft skills Coordinate EOP and Promise to the Beach engagement activities and workshops.

Provide engagement activities that promotes sense of belonging and community building.

Coordinate outreach and recruitment - Assist with SOAR communication and registration for EOP and Promise to the Beach students.

Assist with Summer Bridge Program planning, communication, and logistics. Oversee SOAR communication to students and campus staff.

Coordinate SOAR and Summer Bridge Program - Develop timeline with specific dates for outreach and recruitment. Provide information sessions regarding EOP and Promise to the Beach to LBUSD high schools and LBCC staff and students.

Provide support with College Conferences and College Inclusions Summit.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Programming and Workshops : The ideal candidate should possess the ability to develop and coordinate large-scale programming.

This involves managing complex projects and ensuring their successful execution. Additionally, the candidate should be capable of designing and conducting workshops for both students and staff.

Financial Aid and Academic Integrity : A basic working knowledge of financial aid processes and policies is essential. This includes understanding how financial aid works and adhering to relevant regulations.

Furthermore, the candidate should exercise professional judgment when addressing academic integrity concerns.

Technical Skills : Familiarity with specific software tools is valuable. Knowledge of PeopleSoft for admission and academic advising purposes is preferred.

Additionally, proficiency in using EAB-platform to assist students with appointments and general information is advantageous.

Working knowledge of Canvas and Beach Sync is also beneficial for supporting student experiences.

Admission Procedures and Equity Programs : The candidate should understand university admission procedures and requirements related to equity programs.

This knowledge ensures effective support for prospective students.

Communication and Writing Skills : Excellent oral communication skills are necessary. The candidate must be able to respond to complex inquiries from various stakeholders.

Strong writing and editing abilities are crucial for composing professional-level documents, including letters, proposals, and reports.

Interpersonal Abilities and Collaboration : The candidate should work well with diverse faculty, staff, and student populations.

Effective collaboration and positive relationships are essential. Additionally, the ability to establish cooperative working relationships with external parties is valuable.

Time Management and Adaptability : The position requires sound time management skills. Prioritizing assignments, handling deadlines, and managing a heavy workload are crucial.

Remaining calm and focused in a fast-paced environment is also important.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.

Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with upper or graduate coursework in counseling and guidance, human relations, or related fields and three years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.
  • Five years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas highly preferred.
  • Master's degree or work-in-progress in student services preferred.
  • Experience working with students in a one-on-one and group in a higher education setting for academic, career and personal counseling.
  • Experience with outreach and recruitment to support program yield.
  • Experience interpreting academic policies and major requirements for degree completion.

Physical Summary

Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and / or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking.

May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

Licenses / Certificates

Driver license preferred.

Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and / or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on University business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range : The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,276 - $7,517 per month.

Excellent benefits through CalPERS (health, vision, dental), tuition fee waiver, generous vacation and sick leave, and 14 paid holidays each year.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
