The American Heart Association has an opening for a Communications & Marketing Intern in Mobile, AL. This position will focus on developing and implementing communications and marketing assets that promote the Association's strategic priorities and events, with a special emphasis on traditional and non-traditional media relations within the Mobile, AL market.

org.Internship Overview : Time Commitment : 20-25 hours per weekInternship Duration : 1 / 21 / 25 5 / 2 / 25Location : Hybrid must live in South Mississippi, Mobile, AL area, or NW Florida.

Will attend local events in one of these listed areas.Salary : $23.00 per hourInternship Outcomes : Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to : Gain important and practical job skills to be successful in a non-profit environmentOpportunity to explore a career-path with a reputable voluntary health / service organization.

Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.

ResponsibilitiesWrites / distributes communications materials mostly supporting fundraising activations.Pitches / places stories in traditional and non-traditional media, as appropriate.

Assists with social media posts and web stories.Secures media participation in support of American Heart Association events.

Works with internal fundraising staff to determine roles / responsibilities for communications support and provide support, as appropriate.

Identifies human interest stories for distribution via media, digital and social channels.Develop PowerPoints and Communications reports as required.

Works to place Public Service Announcements (PSA) locally, as appropriate.Works with other team members to help manage local paid advertising projects.

Manages and implements other projects as identified by the Executive Director and Regional VP of Communications.QualificationsSenior or graduate level college or university student studying communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or related field.

Ability to work as a team member with multiple internal and external constituencies : staff, media, external corporations, and volunteers.

Interest in implementing public relations campaigns, pitching to media, writing and / or developing press releases, scripts, social media posts and other marketing and communications assets.

Working knowledge of news media operations, newsgathering, and technology.Exceptional oral and written communications skills.

Ability to travel to local meetings and events as required.Required Equipment : Reliable WiFi connectionMinimum availability of 20 hrs / wk, M-F between the hours of 9am-5 : 00pm.
