As a team member and leader in the fire services team, you will play a crucial role in enhancing and leading the training program.
This demanding and rewarding position requires quick thinking, teamwork, and the ability to perform under pressure.
The Fire Training Captain position reports directly to the Fire Chief.
The fire services team operates from one firehouse located on-site :
Administrative Staff :
One Fire Chief
One Fire Training Captain
Three rotating shifts consisting of :
Three Captains
Three Lieutenants
Nine Firefighter / EMTs
Three Firefighter / Paramedics
Fire Services Apparatus :
Two fire service SUVs
One Brush Truck

Qualifications :
Essential Job Functions :
Understand and follow all Standard Operating Procedures
Observe and report all suspicious activity
Follow the Emergency Action and Communication Plans and all Standard Operating Procedures for emergencies
Maintain compliance with Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism and Foreign Trade Zone (where applicable)
Completes incident reports as required
Performs all duties listed for Emergency Response Officer
Perform minor maintenance and repair duties in support of facility Fire Protection initiatives
Assist / Support Insurance Underwriter's Audit / Assessment
Coordinate and schedule monthly shop inspections, and work with Fire Maintenance and Repair contractor
as site representative
Maintain Evacuation maps where applicable
Complete fire system inspections and testing and report all deficiencies
Assist with access control procedures
Document and record in the fire audit program all fire hazards detailed in the NASEM Fire Safety Audit Standards
Perform minor maintenance and repair duties in support of NASEM Fire Protection initiatives
Host Fire Service tours, orientations, and exercises with local Fire Service regularly
Lead AED and CPR training
Coordinate fire hydrant testing maintenance (possible painting included)
Fire Sprinkler system testing and confirmation
Fire Alarm system testing and confirmation
Manage the Fire Extinguisher Program and coordinate with the vendor as required
Support Emergency Drills
Act as a weather spotter and monitor weather alerts through SkyGuard or other notification systems
Assist with State or local Fire Marshall Audits, as needed
Oversee the approval and inspections of : all hot works and high-hazard hot works, confined space permits
Coordinate and respond as required for daily fire / rescue and Hazmat responses
Develop, plan, and implement comprehensive training programs for fire personnel, ensuring adherence to department and regulatory standards
Lead and supervise daily training, drills, and practical exercises to enhance skills in firefighting, rescue operations, and emergency medical care
Prepare and oversee necessary records and reports, ensuring timely documentation of training, incidents, and other departmental activities
Be available for necessary hours and shifts, including emergency callouts
Requirements :
Minimum of 7 years of paid fire service experience
Minimum two years experience in a training role
NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800
Pass an NFPA 1582 physical examination and drug test
Certified Basic Structure Fire Protection by the Texas Commission of Fire Protection, or the ability to obtain within 90 days.
Fire Officer 2 certification.
Instructor 2 certification.
Driver / Operator Pumper certification
ICS 300 certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days
ICS 400 certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days
Preferred :
Fire Instructor 3 certification
Fire Officer 4 certification
Driver / Operator Aerial certification
Hazardous Materials Technician certification
Incident Commander certification
Hazardous Materials Incident Commander certification
Fire Investigator certification
Paramedic and or EMT certification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
Proficient in incident management and emergency response procedures, including familiarity with the Incident Command System (ICS).
Ability to develop and deliver training programs, evaluate personnel performance, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively lead teams and coordinate with external agencies.
Knowledge of fire suppression techniques, EMS protocols, hazardous materials response, and firefighting equipment operation.
Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office.
