Systems Engineer

DESCRIPTION

The City of Corona has an exciting opportunity to join our Information Technology Department as a Systems Engineer. The Systems Engineer analyzes, implements, configures, maintains and troubleshoots network hardware components.

Provides regular briefing, presentations and written updates to upper management on projects and daily tasks assigned.

Knowledge

• Knowledge of network security, wireless and VPN technologies.
• Knowledge of Transmission Control Protocol / Internal Protocol (TCP / IP) in an enterprise environment.
• Knowledge of current MS Windows Operating systems, Active Directory, Hardware Virtualization, Cloud infrastructure, Unified messaging, and IP based Unified Communications.
• Knowledge of Open Systems Interconnection network model (OSI).

Skills & Abilities

• Ability to Plan, organize, and document processes and procedures to produce high quality work.
• Configure, implement, and troubleshoot network systems.
• Ability to perform implementations of hardware and software following best practices in alignment with City objectives.
• Ability to participate in 24 / 7 on / call support rotation.

Education & Experience :

• Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's Vehicle Insurance Policy.
• A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or a closely related field and,
• Three (3) years' experience in network systems administration.
• An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Candidates that successfully pass the screening process and are deemed to possess the most desirable qualifications will be invited to a virtual HireVue interview.

Candidates who pass the virtual HireVue interview will be invited to the in-person oral interviews tentatively scheduled for October 8, 2024.

The top scoring candidates from the oral interview will be placed on an eligibility list from which the department may hire.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference / background check including livescan and pass a pre-employment medical examination (which will include a drug / alcohol screening).

The Organization

The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policymaking and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members.

Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.

The City is organized into the following departments / organizational units : Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities.

Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.

The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2025 is $ 399.1 million with a General Fund operating budget of $ 209.6 million.
