About the Indiana Veterans' Home :
The Indiana Veterans' Home is located in West Lafayette, Indiana. Originally created to care for veterans of the Civil War, the Indiana Veterans’ Home welcomed its first resident in 1896.
Located on 250+ acres in West Lafayette, IVH is a full-service care facility offering a complete array of services for residents.
The mission of the Indiana Veterans' Home is to honor Indiana's veterans and their spouses by providing the highest level of care in a therapeutic home-like environment, enhancing health and yielding optimal quality of life.

Salary :
The salary for this position traditionally starts between $15.17 - $21.25 an hour
Work Hours :
9am to 5pm hours, Monday- Friday
Work every 3rd weekend, 8am to 4pm
Work 3 to 4 Holidays per year, 8am to 4pm
Purpose of Position / Summary :
Incumbent works as a Supply Clerk in the Central Supply section of the Nursing Department of the IVH. Performs routine delivery, stocking, and inventory tasks both within Central Supply and on the nursing care units.
Works with moderate supervision under the direction Purchasing Administrator 3
Essential Duties / Responsibilities :
- Receiving, checking in, and storing supplies from vendors
- Delivering and storing supplies to nursing care units
- Prepare items that need to be shipped out for mailing
- Maintains and rotates stock items
- Assembles new items before distribution
- Simple repairs on equipment (i.e., change batteries)
- Cleans department and exchange carts
- Moves equipment and furniture (beds)
- Checks and restocks glove boxes and other standard items on nursing units
- Keeps inventories of all items needed for A&A residents. Inventories include the actual items and all
paperwork as needed for each resident. Keeps inventory of nursing supplies.
- Assists the Central Supply Director with placing orders.
- Responsible for ordering brief / pull-up orders. The incumbent is responsible for :
Maintaining an inventory of how many cases each resident has. Cases are to be stored in the Commissary until needed.
Collecting the requisitions faxed to Central Supply by the units weekly.
Reviewing the requisitions and create a list of items needed. This list is faxed to Commissary requesting the appropriate briefs / pull-ups be delivered to Central Supply.
Staff will unpack the boxes and put name labels on the individual items and then deliver the items to the resident’s rooms.
Orders are sent to the IVH Pharmacy when supplies are low, or a resident is added to A&A.
- Checks the A&A diabetic supplies on the units and restock three times a week with lancets and test strips. Refill requests for these supplies are called into the VA Pharmacy as needed.
- Assists the Central Supervise Director with supervising the Central Supply Store Clerks.
- Order and maintain inventory of medical and personal care supplies.
Nonessential Duties / Responsibilities :
- Locates equipment and supplies on the units
- Assists with special projects, such as side rail inventory
- Answers the phone and delivers messages to appropriate staff
- Perform other related duties as may be required.
Job Requirements
- Knowledge of available items, their shelf life, and general purpose
- Ability to understand and follow both written and verbal communications
- Ability to develop, set up, and maintains a stock storage and rotation system
Supervisory Responsibilities / Direct Reports :
No supervisory responsibility; reports to Supervisor / Purchasing Administrator 3
Difficulty of Work :
Work involves routine, repetitive tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Responsibility :
Receives general instructions on a daily basis, with more detailed instructions for new procedures and equipment; work is reviewed throughout the day for completion and compliance.
Personal Work Relationships :
Contacts are with co-workers, IVH staff, and contract workforce, supervisor, and outside vendors.
Physical Effort :
Work requires ability to be on feet for long periods of time; to be able to bend and stoop; to be able to lift heavy items (up to 25 pounds) and push / pull heavy items.
Must be able to reach above shoulders.
Working Conditions :
Work is in storerooms and nursing units. May be exposed to cleaning chemicals.
