As an Actuarial Analyst, you will be responsible for the oversight of assigned projects, including technical work of supporting analysts, development and maintenance of computer programs, preparing rate and provider reimbursement studies and other statistical analyses, producing various reports, and performing other actuarial and / or analytical functions.
You will develop detailed work plans for projects, including design scope and strategic analytical steps of actuarial / analytical projects.
This position can be hired as a Level III or Level IV, depending upon experience.
This is a hybrid role, with some onsite days required. You must live within driving distance of our Mountlake Terrace campus, located about 15 miles north of Seattle, Washington.
What you’ll do :
Consult with department management to establish project goals, work plan objectives, analytical strategies, and timeline requirements for completion of assigned work product.
Recommend team priorities, analytical work, and responsibilities of project support staff.
Provide on-going and ad hoc actuarial support to other Premera departments, as appropriate.
Create written communication and / or peer review all written communication and analyses of project team.
Conduct peer review and documentation of complex analytical analyses.
Assess risk and develop analytic strategies.
Provide data and actuarial calculations relating to the analyses of existing and proposed products and benefits, provider risk pools, stop loss, and administrative costs, as required.
Conduct peer reviews of technical work of analyst team.
Monitor and review analytical data from various departments, for content, accuracy, associated problems, and recommend actions to correct problems.
Provide detailed documentation of corrective actions including discussions of effect to plan results, for distribution.
Develop and interpret trend data.
Draft written discussion of interpretation of various actuarial issues and create appropriate analytical presentation of results to support interpretation.
Provide peer review of written material developed by project support staff.
Mentor or train more junior analysts or other actuarial staff.
Present findings and consult as needed to multiple levels of internal and external client leadership.
Identify problem areas in any facet of plan operations, and recommend and / or implement changes, to improve operations or help to attain plan goals.
What you’ll bring :
Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field, or (4) years of work experience.
Required for Level III and Level IV).
4) years of actuarial analysis experience. (Required for Level III).
7) years of actuarial analysis experience. (Required for Level IV).
5) years of actuarial analysis experience in the healthcare industry. (Required for Level IV).
Knowledge of Visual Basic and SQL programming.
Knowledge of health insurance concepts and terms, including solid understanding of insurance risk.
Strong analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills. Ability to make decisions and communicate how the conclusion and decision was derived.
Ability to provide strategic analytical design of projects.
Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to communicate technical actuarial concepts to non-actuaries.
Extensive computer experience, including working with complex spreadsheets, databases, and programs.
Proficiency in a computer programming language and aptitude to learn others. Proficient with standard Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.
