Tell us about your department : The Information and Records Management (IRM) department sits within Enterprise Risk and Compliance and is responsible for providing data retention requirements to teams in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom for both Best Buy and Best Buy Health.
IRM owns and updates the records retention schedule and advises teams on the system registration and decommission processes, best practices for data migration, contract review, compliance audits, etc.
Project Description : Working with Best Buy Health team members to ensure records management compliance, including proper retentions are applied and data is purged / destroyed at the appropriate times.
Position Summary / Job Description :
- Retention : Collaborate with stakeholders to identify data topics, communicate retention requirements, review contracts, and assist with certificates of destruction.
- Compliance : Stay updated on health regulations and standards (e.g., HIPAA) to balance business needs with compliance requirements.
- Purge Audit Compliance : Conduct retention audits, document findings, and handle policy exception requests, including remediation plans.
- Documentation : Develop and maintain data management standards, procedures, and protocols.
- Destruction : Review decommission requests to ensure proper destruction or capture of record information
- Metrics : Establish and track KPIs, using data-driven insights to identify areas for automation to save time and resources.
- Other Duties : Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills Overview :
What are the top five skills and number of years of experience required to perform this job?
o 4 years of experience in information lifecycle management and / or records management, including 2 years in health-related information management.
o Understanding of state, federal, and regulatory agency requirements for the security, privacy, and confidentiality of health records.
o Demonstrated customer orientation, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations.
o Ability to work independently and proactively solve problems.
o Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
What are some preferred / nice to have skills the manager is looking for?
o Professional certificate or secondary education in records management including : Certified Records Manager (CRM), Certified Records Analyst (CRA), Certified Information Professional (CIP), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or other related certifications.
o Experience working with databases, particularly healthcare databases, strongly preferred.
o Current / Previous affiliation with Association for Intelligent Information Management (AIIM) and / or ARMA International (formerly the Association of Records Managers and Administrators).
