Your role at Clorox :

Beauty / Cosmetic / Personal Care experience is required.

The Burt’s Bees R&D Director role is responsible for execution excellence of R&D efforts to serve the Business Unit goals and strategy.

This leader sits on the Burt’s Bees cross-functional Leadership Team responsible for delivering the annual financial goals and development of long range plan.

The role will be lead cross-functional peers to facilitate the Innovation roll up and sufficiency of plans, as well as operational excellence in partnership with supply chain to maintain quality and launch innovation to meet or exceed goals.

This role is fast-paced, exciting, and integral to the brand’s growth.

Position reports to the VP GM Burt's Bees and manages 19 of people across the R&D organization including process, packaging product design, clinical studies, and formulation plus up to 3 packaging co-ops and up to 3 contracted lab technicians.

This position will be located in our Durham, NC office, relocation assistance is available.

In this role, you will :

  • Business unit leadership team member, accountable for Business Unit goals and objectives, working collaboratively on the leadership team to build and deliver short and long term plans
  • Be accountable for building and maintaining a healthy pipeline of innovation and margin enhancement initiatives. Incorporate growth stack and digital core
  • Ensure all aspects of products (quality, regulatory, etc) are met through both the base renovation and innovation plan.

Be Accountable for the right level of technical rigor to ensure execution with excellence.

  • Build a culture of inclusivity while inspiring and driving engagement in a high performing R&D team, while holding them accountable to business results and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Adopt enterprise transformation capabilities appropriately into the business unit to strengthen digital capabilities, consumer-focus and growth mindset.

What we look for :

  • 15+ years relevant experience
  • Experience in personal care and / or beauty is a must
  • 5+ years experience leading teams and managing people, org design experience a plus
  • Experience across Product, Process and Packaging innovation.
  • Experience in leveraging external manufacturers for speed and innovation.
  • Demonstrated ability to build a pipeline of innovation that delivers against goals.
  • Understanding of the supply chain and track record of leading successful scale up of innovations.
  • Experience in serving the needs of international markets.
  • Experience in working with Leading Edge Retailers to sell in innovation and the creation of high impact demos.
  • Track record of influencing cross-functional partners and refining ideas via their input.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence the business direction with Sr. Leaders
  • Design to Value experience is a plus.

Hybrid - 3 days / week in the office, Monday to Friday.

Based on the breadth of our ranges, most new hires will start at Clorox in the first half of the applicable range. Your starting pay will depend on job-related factors, including relevant skills, knowledge, experience and location.

The applicable salary range for every role in the U.S. is based on your work location and is aligned to one of three zones according to the cost of labor in your area.

Zone A : $171,700 - $352,600

Zone B : $157,400 - $324,200

Zone C : $143,100 - $294,700

This job is also eligible for participation in Clorox’s incentive plans, subject to the terms of the applicable plan documents and policies.
