Position Information Operating Title Communications Assistant, Athletic Communications Summary of Position The Communications Assistant, Athletic Communications is a member of the UNH Athletics Communications team, which falls under Athletics External Operations.

A major component of this role is to serve as front-line ambassador for designated athletic teams as assigned and engage in close collaboration with those teams’ staffs.

Travel with some sports is expected.

In addition to working with coaches, the role requires an understanding of UNH Athletics’ strategies around fan engagement, building attendance, generating revenue, and communicating about the student-athlete experience.

Accordingly, the role requires this person to draw on the external operations resources (digital media, UNH Wildcat Productions, media relations, marketing, etc.

to implement organizational objectives. Critical skills include proficiency and timeliness with social media marketing including, but not limited to, knowledge of leading media platforms and how-to skills for community building.

Short-form writing skills, media relations, sport-specific statistical documentation, and in-game statistical oversight are also important competencies.

This position communicates regularly with campus personnel, donors, alumni, and the Athletics Development office to strengthen the program’s relationship with each stakeholder group.

Campus Location Durham Required Qualifications Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, and experience working in a sports information / athletic communications office (or equivalent) is required.

Must have strong writing skills and familiarity with AP style, strong oral communication skills and the ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects independently.

Should be familiar with NCAA Genius and Stat Crew software for various sports. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop), HTML, IMovie and QuickTime Pro, and knowledge of advanced video editing and Flash are a plus.

Ability to work evenings and weekends is required.
