PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBLITIES

The City of Lone Tree is seeking an entry-level code compliance professional to join our growing team. Code Compliance is a division within the Community Development Department, along with Planning and Building services.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, communicates clearly and tactfully, and is highly organized.

Lone Tree strives to work with our businesses and residents to identify and enforce nuisance, land use, and other codes and ordinances designed to protect the health, safety and welfare of the residents, and the general quality of life.

This employee works independently with minimal supervision, as part of the Community Development team, and with other departments and city partners.

They serve as a resource and provide information on City regulations to property owners, residents, businesses, and the public, along with other City departments and divisions.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE CITY

  • Enforces and interprets City codes and ordinances pertaining to nuisance and land use.
  • Responds to citizen concerns and complaints and requests.
  • Schedules and performs systematic property inspections.
  • Collects illegal signs from city property and rights-of-way.
  • Issues permits for temporary uses, banners and food trucks.
  • Compiles and maintains complete and accurate records and information pertaining to daily activities, investigations, and enforcement actions including notices of violations, administrative citations, fines, summons and complaints and abatement measures.
  • Testifies in municipal court as required.
  • Performs site plan inspections and reviews, reads and interprets maps and plans.
  • Supports the Code Compliance Supervisor with other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Six (6) months experience in customer service, or enforcement / compliance related work including investigating allegations, conducting research, and resolving complaints, concerns or conflicts.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
  • Must have the ability to effectively interact with individuals of varying social, cultural, economic, professional, and educational backgrounds and be able to conduct themselves in calm, professional manner in situations that may involve conflict.
  • Certification in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) preferred.
  • Must have a current state motor vehicle driver’s license and must maintain a clean driving record.
  • Must be capable of driving a company vehicle in the performance of the duties contained herein.
  • Obtain state certification from Colorado Association of Code Enforcement (CACEO), as soon as course is offered.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is in an office setting and a field environment; required to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist;
  • walk on uneven terrain, loose soil, and sloped surfaces; to lift, carry, push, and / or pull light to moderate amounts of weight;
  • to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard;

to travel to other locations; to operate equipment and vehicle; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
