MISSION : Optimize the health, development, education, and well-being of babies, toddlers, and preschoolers through a family driven, equitable, community-based system of high-quality prenatal and early childhood programs and services.
The Early Childhood Education and Care Department was established on July 1, 2020. The Department's aim is to create a more cohesive, equitable, and effective early childhood system in New Mexico.
That means coordinating a continuum of programs from prenatal to five and ensuring that families in every corner of the state can access the services they need.
Why does the job exist?
To provide assistance / support towards full inclusion of children with developmental delays and medically diagnosed disabilities into new or existing setting / environment (child care, public schools, Head Start, PreK, etc.)
How does it get done?
- Direct consultation with child care, preschool, and PreK programs to support their ability to understand principles of inclusion;
- Developing and delivering training for the early childhood workforce on key principles of inclusion and on supporting children with developmental differences;
providing consultation to FIT providers on how to effectively provide services in a child care setting; Developing quarterly reports on inclusionary efforts statewide.
Who are the customers?
The positions located in Santa Fe serve the Early Intervention workforce to be more effective providing IDEA Part C services in a child care setting.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position has at least two years of experience as an Early Intervention Practitioner and at least two years experience as an Early Childhood Educator.
They should posses in-depth knowledge of supporting children with special needs both within a child care and a home or community setting.
The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in IDEA Part C and in utilizing principles of universal design to create early childhood classrooms that maximize accessibility for all children.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration or Business Administration and five (5) years of experience as a teacher and / or program administrator.
