DESCRIPTION
Under supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) and senior researchers, the incumbent will assist in research on the structure and function of the reward circuitry in rodents by carrying out various anatomical, immunohistochemical and microscopy procedures.
Research involves extracting, dissecting, fixing, slicing and staining brain tissue for microscopic analysis.
Oversight and maintenance of the mouse colony, cell lines and perform DNA transfections. Additional duties include lab support with supply ordering, overseeing preparation of standard solutions, maintaining common lab equipment, advising on lab safety protocols and ensuring lab is clean safe and safe work environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Theoretical knowledge of cell biology, microscopy, immunohistochemistry biology as acquired through a B.S. in Biology or related field, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of at least one year of lab experience maintaining a mouse colony, breeding, and collecting tissue for genotyping.
Experience performing basic techniques in histology, in vivo behavioral experiments, molecular biology, and immuno-histochemistry.
Laboratory experience with basic and general cell biology techniques including genotyping, DNA transfections, maintaining cell lines, and microscopy.
Knowledge of scientific terminology.
Experience using basic laboratory equipment (light microscopes, balances, pH meter, centrifuges, etc.).
Ability to learn new experimental methods as required. Ability to work independently or collaboratively on a research project.
Broad understanding of equipment and technologies used in Neuroscience research.
Skill to prepare and maintain laboratory records, files and notebooks.
Excellent (English) communication skills including skill to interpret and carry out written and oral instructions.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with diverse personalities.
Ability to work independently with a variety of PC computer applications such as Microsoft Office, with willingness and ability to update and increase skills and knowledge as needed.
Sensitivity to the needs of laboratory animals in compliance to AAALAC standards.
Skills and knowledge to maintain stocks of essential supplies and reagents, to purchase lab supplies, and to ensure lab equipment is running efficiently.
Knowledge / understanding and at least some experience with Safety Data Sheets, hazard communication and Injury and Illness Prevention Program.
Familiarity with a Chemical Hygiene Plan addressing safety precautions including appropriate clothing and shoes, safe handling of chemicals, use of protective items.
Willingness and ability to keep safety training current and consistent with research involvement.
Willingness and demonstrated ability to embrace and consistently uphold the principles of community for a collaborative work environment.
Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to create and maintain excellent working relationships in a team environment.
Capability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Must be willing to work occasional overtime (evening or weekend) based on the needs of the experiments
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range : $55,374 - $66,064 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent : $26.52 - $31.64
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
