Bannister Creek Primary School (PS) seeks a dedicated and highly motivated Music Specialist Teacher to run its well-established and highly valued Music program.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess a deep understanding of music-specific pedagogies, including the Orff-Schulwerk approach and have the leadership skills to drive and grow a highly engaging and meaningful music program across the school from Kindergarten to Year 6.

Specialist teachers with strong behaviour management skills, an understanding of trauma-informed practice, and the ability to design and implement a culturally responsive music program are encouraged to apply.

Part of the Music Teacher's role is to manage the Music portfolio; this includes directing the Junior and Senior Choirs and the School Band and coordinating the Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) program.

Skills in directing ensembles are highly advantageous. The specialist programs at Bannister Creek PS are held in high esteem and are an important part of the fabric of the school.

The successful applicant should have the creative and collaborative capacity to work with other staff and community members to elevate the school's specialist learning areas at whole school events such as the school's National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC), Harmony Day, and Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) Day events.

Specialist Teachers play a unique role in sharing a collective responsibility for the development and growth of all our students.

The successful applicant would understand innately the role music has to play in the development of all students and have the skills to engage every student in meaningful music-making.

Bannister Creek PS is an Independent public school situated in Lynwood. The school catchment draws a wonderfully rich and diverse school community that is embraced and celebrated.

Our school caters for approximately 570 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 in a beautifully planned environment that focuses on providing a global perspective through sustainable opportunities.

This includes a school gardening club with vegetable gardens, chickens, an outdoor classroom on site, and Moort Boodja - a 6 Seasons Garden.

We have 22 classrooms, five purpose-built Early Childhood Education rooms, a contemporary library resource centre, specialist art and music rooms and a fully enclosed undercover area.

Our parents and carers are actively engaged in the school through our School Board, P&C, Baldja Waangkiny, our Aboriginal Parent Liaison Group and a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) Parent Group.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment.

This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
