POSITION SUMMARY :

The Teacher is a member of the Rite of Passage team supporting the educational goals and objectives of the

education department. Primarily responsible for providing instructional services and career path direction to

students enrolled in the vocational construction program that is responsive to industry and appropriate to program

needs. Works collaboratively with staff in a supportive fashion emphasizing a positive attitude toward students,

staff and program. CTE Teachers report to the Education Administration Office, Instructional Team Leader and / or

Principal.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Adheres to the facility, daily and school schedule.
  • Prepares, in advance, for each class, implements and delivers daily lesson plans and activities for the purpose of delivering instructional curriculum related to subject area competencies, developing employable vocational technology skills, and / or leading to industry recognized certification.

Designs lesson plans to follow the Target Teaching format, and collaborates with other staff to design and emphasize integrated activities for the purpose of developing academic skills appropriate for career paths.

  • Communicates student behavioral and vocational progress and information to Case Management, Clinicians, School Office and direct care staff on a timely and consistent basis.
  • Participates and contributes to the Professional Learning Community process by consistently communicating information, being prepared, and demonstrating behaviors that reflect continuous improvement and team work.
  • Tracks student attendance. maintains and provides student grades (weekly and exit) for the purpose of providing documentation of student progress.
  • Adheres to school policies pertaining to grading, posting students grades and quarterly reports.
  • Responds to the questions and needs of the students who have a variety of ability levels.
  • Develops, implements and maintains effective classroom management strategies for the purpose of ensuring a safe and secure, clean, positive and inviting learning environment.

Conducts large and small group instruction as well as individual instruction when needed.

  • Works collaboratively with Direct-care staff on implementing a team based program and maintains effective working relationships with other staff members to ensure accurate and timely communication of information, exchange of materials, ideas and instructional strategies.
  • Maintains a three-day supply of emergency lesson plans that follow the clinical teaching format and define student learning objectives and evaluation procedures for the purpose of ensuring instructional continuity.
  • Ensures the vocational building is maintained in a safe and orderly fashion. Develops operational procedures (i.e. shop safety, security, tool, etc.

and documents violations for the purpose of ensuring shop safety.

Maintains a daily and monthly inventory of all supplies, materials and equipment to ensure all items are accounted for.

Utilizes a safety data sheet when applicable.

Handles the responsibility for all instruction, curriculum, tools, identification of Special Education students in each class, and levels of completion in compliance with city, county, state and federal law, licensing agency and Rite of Passage Rules and Regulations.

Completes required reports and documentation in a timely manner, provides management with required reports and advises of any problematic situations.

Submits quarterly reports and instructional supply budget for the purpose of satisfying student achievement and financial requirements.

Complies with and implements the Rite of Passage Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals / handbooks.

Provides input and submits proposals for the revision of existing and / or new policies and procedures.

  • Assists with and presents proposals to correct identified deficiencies and quality improvement efforts.
  • Attends all required meetings. (i.e. weekly staff meetings and team meetings). Is punctual and prepared to participate in all staff meetings and after-hour extracurricular program events for the purpose of receiving and / or providing information and supporting the program.
  • Reviews and analyzes current program elements, provides suggestions and direction to the Principal to ensure the highest standards are maintained to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct and to ensure the program remains in compliance with agency licensing and Rite of Passage policies and procedures.
  • Commits to attending all training / staff development classes in order to ensure sufficient hours of training are completed on an annual basis.

Notifies supervisor if annual training hours are deficient.

  • Ensures the safety, health and welfare of staff and students at all times.
  • Models and ensures all program norms are upheld without compromise.
  • Acts as a positive role model and mentor for both staff and students.
  • Treats others with respect, confronts negative behavior and supports confrontation
  • Other duties as assigned, verbally or in written form.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Ability to work with, provide assistance, and support staff and students in a Residential Court School environment. Provides encouragement, guidance and resources to staff and students.
  • Participates in after-hours extracurricular program events and Site, Region and / or Company community events as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • ServSafe Certification or ability to obtain
  • College Degree preferred
  • Requires current AZ Department of Education Teaching Certification in CTE Instruction
  • Preferably Certified in Business or Culinary
  • Five years of industry experience and the skills and knowledge sufficient to deliver a comprehensive vocational training curriculum.
  • Knowledge of : Instructional vocational strategies and how they can be employed to deliver curriculum and assess student learning.

Various methodologies and research related to learning and working with at-risk, post secondary, high school aged youth.

Effective communication techniques that enable positive and productive collaboration between Education and Direct-care staff.

Technology and how it can be used as an educational tool.

Ability to : Establish a teaching rapport with students which results in student achievement in all program areas. Deliver a hands-on approach emphasizing appropriate concepts relevant to vocational skills and career path progress.

Teach specific CTE skills necessary for students to function productively in their respective career path. Collaborate with education and ROP staff to deliver a consistent CTE curriculum and implement a team approach to working with students.

Confront inappropriate behavior appropriately and take the necessary action as outlined in the program procedures. Accept additional tasks as assigned including flexible work schedule and extracurricular assignments.

  • Ability to work in a cooperative and collaborative manner and demonstrate a positive work ethic.
  • A working knowledge of the principals of the Milieu Based Treatment Behavior Modification Program.
  • If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible ROP driver.

Must possess a current State Drivers License and have an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years.

  • Strong knowledge of overall Rite of Passage operations and policies and procedures.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background clearance check, drug screen, physical and TB test.
  • Ability to perform work with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to utilize resources available to complete assigned projects.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.
