Job Profile Summary
Under limited supervision, this position provides direct service and support to prospective and current Health Career Opportunities Program (HCOP) grant participants.
This includes the coordination of participants’ enrollment in program activities and student support. It facilitates and supports the engagement, retention, and completion of students in HCOP programming including the summer, pre-matriculation, and Ambassador programs.
The position will serve in a dual role of academic advisement and case management. The position will guide students on their education pathway toward meaningful employment while connecting them to resources that can minimize or remove barriers to success such as remedial workshops / courses, English language skills courses, tutoring, mentoring, professional development, completion of transfer applications, accessing financial aid / scholarships and linking them to college resources and community-based partners for assistance with housing, food, technology, transportation, childcare, and emergency needs.
The successful candidate must be passionate about higher education, have a service-oriented attitude, excellent communicator, and have a willingness to become cross-functionally trained in order to provide transformative, individualized advisement to HCOP participants.
This is a grant-funded temporary position which ends on August 31, 2028. The incumbent is subject to annual performance evaluations and grant contract renewal.
Minimum Education :
- Bachelor's degree required.
- An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
Minimum Experience / Training :
- Six years of relevant experience.
- Creativity in providing additional alternatives in the delivery of information to students.
Essential Functions :
Daily - 20% : Responsible for supporting Health Career Opportunities Program (HCOP) participants from the point of program application through admission and enrollment completion, and referral to career placement.
Such activities include engaging students in academic and career planning assessments, interpreting those assessments, assisting students in the development of a success plan that addresses their interests, skills, and abilities, and assisting students in clarifying their career, major, and career or academic goals.
Additionally, this position is responsible for facilitating learning opportunities about admission and student services processes and procedures, student success skills and resources, student life opportunities, and job placement resources while maintaining confidentiality.
Daily - 15% : Responsible for collecting, reviewing, and assessing applications, and related documents for compliance and eligibility for admission to the HCOP program.
Provides routine advice and guidance regarding the technical certificate and degree program application process and document requirements, including those that have limited access.
Responds to email / telephone inquiries from students about advisement, registration, transfer information, and other procedures or policies at Broward College.
Continuously works to maintain individualized engagement with HCOP participants to ensure completion of participant’s goals.
- Daily - 10% : Supports HCOP participants interested in credit programs or matriculation into a limited access program, by ensuring that deadlines are met for completing FAFSA, Immigration, Florida Residency, and additional required documents.
- Daily - 10% : Oversees HCOP email inbox to ensure inquiries and requests are managed properly.
- Weekly - 15% : Engages in follow-up calls, personalized attention, and possible review of transcripts in view of potential recruitment into college credit programs.
Reviews transcripts to ensure eligibility for admission to a specific college or Allied Health program including unofficial evaluation of transfer credits and applicability of academic credit to program requirements.
Monitors the receipt of all applicable official transcripts and collaborates with the transcript evaluators for the timely evaluation of official transcripts.
Supports HCOP participant's desire to transfer into credit programs with the transition / referral to appropriate for-credit advisement advisors, recruitment staff, and appropriate department.
Semester Basis - 10% : Schedules and monitors individualized advising appointments, on campus and / or in underserved community locations, as applicable.
Conducts / facilitates group advising and registration sessions and success workshops for HCOP participants on campus. Responsible for collecting, interpreting, maintaining, and distributing data regarding student enrollment, completion trends, student needs, preferences, and performance for use in the grant performance report, evaluation, and departmental and institutional decision making.
- Weekly - 10% : Assists with communication between students and community agencies’ case managers and provides referrals for additional support to reduce or eliminate barriers to enrollment.
- Other - 5% : Engages in professional development experiences to improve practices. Serves on various committees, as needed.
- Other - 5% : Performs other duties as assigned.

- In-depth functional knowledge and expertise in area of specialization and general knowledge of related areas in the College
