Technical Sales Specialist East Segment

Specifically, we are seeking individuals to continuing company growth as a Technical Sales Specialist. This person can be based in a larger Eastern U.

S. city and will support the entire eastern U.S.

Mueller’s Infrastructure products, such as valves, hydrants, and brass, have an entrenched 166+ year history. The installed base for these products is unmatched and has sustained given the quality and after-sale support of our products.

The successful candidate will initially be trained in multiple Mueller product and service lines and will work closely with and report to the Vice-President Infrastructure Sales East to promote the company through sales support via the delivery of presentations as well as business development and lead generation activities.

This role is not a direct sales role, but is intended to support the segment’s various markets and be a utility player to serve as a technical subject-matter expert and resource throughout the assigned area.

The Technical Sales Specialist will further Mueller as the leading provider in its respective niches of the water industry.

The position will involve up to 75% travel for meetings with clients within the sales territory.

Responsibilities for the position include :

  • Technical resource requested to provide additional intellectual advice via presentations and contact with targeted customers
  • Market research / inside sales to determine potential opportunities and routes to market
  • Understanding clients’ needs, and designing solutions with respective technologies and services
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with customers, agents & distributors
  • Recording and maintaining client contact data through Salesforce
  • Marketing, such as attending conferences, publishing technical papers and case studies, etc.
  • Call on end-product users to promote new and existing product lines and develop favorable specification position.
  • Provide service to both established and new customers including : product training, technical and literary support, product complaint, inventory maintenance, and delivery issues.
  • Perform product training for end users and other customers to promote advantages of Mueller product and enhance specification position.
  • Identify significant bid opportunities and provide complete project information, including price strategy.

Position Minimum Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related science discipline
  • Proven track record of providing technical experience in prior work assignments
  • Ability to work independently to support sales in assigned area
  • Aptitude and comfort with explaining product differentiators for customer needs
  • Valid driver’s license with no major violations
  • Ability to routinely travel up to 75% of work schedule (estimated 3-4 days / week of travel with one office day).
  • High level of outgoing interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications :

Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software and other technology-based productivity tools (i-Squared, Salesforce.

com, NetSuite, OnContact, Maximizer CRM, TeamWox, etc.)

  • Experience in selling to the water market
  • Experience calling on and servicing municipalities and engineers
  • Ability to present to audiences and skilled at public speaking

Primary work hours will be Monday through Friday. Work hours will vary based on customer hours. Evening customer meetings may be required during sales travel.

This position is salaried exempt and does not qualify for overtime pay.
