CS 370 : Introduction to Software Engineering

The Department of Computer Science at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2024 to teach CS 370 : Introduction to Software Engineering.

Course Description

Introduces software engineering fundamentals including software development lifecycle, process models, object-oriented methodologies, ethical and professional responsibilities.

Covers project management activities such as proposal writing, project planning, scheduling and monitoring, and development activities such as problem domain analysis, requirements engineering, software design, implementation and testing.

Establishes semester-long working teams, collaborating on project management activities and development activities to construct mid-sized software products.

Produces three project deliverables : Software Requirements Specification Document, Software Design Specification Document, and system executable.

Minimum qualifications :

  • A master’s degree or equivalent professional experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields
  • Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California.

Preferred qualifications :

  • A doctorate or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and related fields
  • Experience teaching similar courses in 4-year universities
  • Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and / or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range : $5,007 - $5,490 per full-time month
  • CSU Classification Salary Range : $5,007 - $6,359 per full-time month
