Section Chief of Construction
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Under direction of the Commissioner of Engineering and Construction, is responsible for coordinating and assigning workloads to support staff including, but not limited to, the Bureau of Sidewalks, Plats and Surveys, Design, Construction, and Bridges and Docks.
Supervises work performed by staff and makes recommendations for improving efficiency and production within the Division.
Identifies problems / provides troubleshooting assistance and assists with finding solutions and resources to resolve problems in a timely manner.
Performs other job-related duties as required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Additional Duties :
- Supervise staff currently consisting of eight Inspectors, one Chief Inspector and one Roadway Construction Project Coordinator.
- Oversee and make final determinations relative to the City’s capital projects in construction along with the City’s Requirements Contracts.
- Approve and monitor project schedule and budget for all construction projects.
- Provide technical guidance to engineers and inspectors.
- Provide cost estimates for a variety of right-of-way work.
- Review and approve change order requests.
- Serve on the Pavement Management Committee.
- Determine scope of work, prepare and review task orders for requirements contracts.
- Provide technical assistance for field issues and general public and council concerns pertaining to road conditions and drainage issues.
- Assemble an internal team for standard drawing revisions.
- Lead constructability reviews.
- Provide approvals of timesheets, leave forms, mileage, overtime, etc.
- Assign and approve inspectors for various projects.
- Attend meetings and prepare project status reports for City administration.
- Review and approve contractor invoices.
- Prepare and submit retainage release requests.
- Create training program customized to the employee.
- Overall coordination with in-office departments and outside agencies as needed.
- Determine and approve staffing assignments.
- Arrange and hold public meetings before and during construction.
