Traffic Controller
The Anaheim Police Department is currently accepting applications for a Traffic Controller. Under moderate supervision, directs traffic at major events, issues parking citations, and impounds vehicles.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated and reliable professional with a strong work ethic and proven experience in towing vehicles and conducting parking enforcement. They demonstrate excellent customer service skills, are highly analytical, extremely organized, and detail oriented. The candidate should possess strong written and verbal communication abilities, be capable of multi-tasking effectively, and thrive in a collaborative team environment. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Employees in this class are distinguished from the Traffic Control Supervisor by the absence of responsibility for immediate supervision of Traffic Control Assistants. Employees in this class are distinguished from Traffic Control Assistants by assuming a broader scope of traffic control duties, such as responding to traffic related calls and dispatch requests; impounding vehicles and enforcing the vehicle abatement program.
The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and / or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Experience and Training : Some experience in traffic control. Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities are as follows :
Knowledge of : Safe traffic directing techniques; report writing techniques; and vehicle impounding procedures and techniques; employee training techniques and radio codes and etiquette.
Ability to : Communicate effectively both orally and in writing; deal diplomatically with the public and other employees; exercise good judgment; provide effective training to new employees in the Traffic Control Section; write clear and legible parking citations related to parking violations and traffic reports related to minor traffic accidents that may occur at or in the vicinity of an event and vehicle impound activities; work in a team environment and function as a productive team member; establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
License / Certification Required : Possession of a valid California Driver's License by date of appointment.

The selection process includes, but is not limited to, a skills assessment, an oral interview, background investigation, polygraph examination, and a medical examination which includes drug / alcohol screening. The interview with the background investigator and completion of the background investigation will include, but is not limited to, verification and evaluation of any present and / or past use of drugs, driving and employment history.
