Objective :

To assist in the planning and implementation of the vocational program and supervision of trainees involved in the vocational program.

Relationships :

1. Reports to : Vocational Program Director

2. Directs : Vocational Trainers and work center trainees

3. Other : Works closely with Program Director, Assistant

Program Director, Program Staff, Health Services

Director, Food Services Manager and Residential

Program Coordinator in planning and supervising vocational

activities of trainees in care.

General Statement of Duties :

The Vocational Program Coordinator guides the Vocational Trainers in the implementation of Person Centered Plans, and their coaching / supervision of trainees.

The Vocational Program Coordinator maintains a general working knowledge of each trainee and can direct Trainers to respond to their needs.

Additionally, ensures that appropriate documentation related to production, incidents and other mandates are completed and routed in a timely manner.

Guides in maintaining the cleanliness, safety and security of the vocational building as well as the timely pick up, delivery and invoicing of community contract materials.

Examples of Work :

Consults with Vocational Program Director in all aspects of trainee’s vocational activities in planning and implementation of ROI jobs, and supervision of Vocational Trainers, as may be required.

Responsible for the following activities :

  • Demonstrates exemplary interpersonal skills and maintains positive working relationships with Vocational Trainers, trainees, their families, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Maintains a general working knowledge of each trainee and the objectives set forth in their Person Centered Plan in order to direct the care of his or her individual needs;

and ensures that each trainee is provided close, continuous supervision unless otherwise specified in a written and approved plan.

  • Regularly monitors each Vocational Trainer for job performance both through daily observation, face-to-face consultations as needed as well as providing input into annual performance appraisals.
  • Maintains an ongoing record of Vocational Trainer absences, tardiness, etc.; ensuring that adequate staff to trainee ratios is maintained.
  • Monitors the Vocational Trainers in providing assistance with meals, following special menus as well as the ongoing supervision of trainees during breaks and lunch periods.
  • Routinely consults with Medical Services Staff to ensure that Vocational Trainers receive the appropriate in-service regarding the medication, health, hygiene and special diet needs of the trainees as may be necessary;
  • Instructs Vocational Trainers in methods to use when monitoring each trainee for job performance, safety, skills and interest, and in documenting work activity as it relates to Person Centered Plans.
  • Guides Vocational Trainers in ensuring the quality control of production; and correct documentation of the production out-put per sub-contract;
  • Ensures timely and accurate written documentation is maintained on any incidents whether accidental, medical or behavioral involving Vocational Trainers and / or trainees.
  • Immediately consults with Vocational Program Director when any problem arises or non-compliance is noted;
  • Works cooperatively with Residential Program Staff in providing continuity of service.
  • Assists the Vocational Program Director in coordinating weekly vocational staff meetings.
  • Assists the Vocational Program Director as needed in the coordination, management and oversight of trainees’ Person Centered Plans.
  • Complies with all rules and regulations required by the licensing agencies regarding employing disabled individuals.
  • Attends scheduled ROI in-service training and general ROI staff meetings.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the standards required by licensing entities, ROI policies and the Department of Labor;
  • Ensures that and assists with maintaining the cleanliness, safety and security of vocational building;
  • Supervises the pickup, delivery and invoicing of material and supplies on behalf of the vocational workshop;
  • Serves on the On-Call rotation for the Residential Program
  • Adheres to work schedule (e.g., is not too frequently absent, tardy or leaves early)
  • Performs such other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

Excellent skills in working with developmentally disabled individuals;

sensitive to the emotional needs of others; ability to organize work duties and to

motivate trainees to participate in all functions of the vocational program; able to

be flexible and to adapt to immediate needs of trainees; building skills, hand

crafts, or any marketable skills desirable; able to establish Christian work

environment; able to solve problems and to handle emergencies.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING :

Minimum of two years college required; at least three years work experience working in supervisory capacity in a human service and / or manufacturing environment, unless exempt by CEO.

A strong desire and ability to acquire techniques and principles specific to working with and training adults with developmentally disabilities.

MORAL REQUIREMENTS :

Must be a person of integrity and good reputation; one who believes in God and exercises his faith in his daily life; whose life and conduct has been such as to receive a favorable recommendation from his church and / or the community.

In all aspects of this position, the highest Christian and professional standards will be utilized.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED :

  • Valid Alabama Drivers License
  • Criminal history checks as may be required by licensing agencies and Rainbow Omega, Inc.
  • Current health physical, indicating applicant is free of communicable diseases.
