To provide staff supervision for assigned areas and to support the overall mission of the Behavioral Health Services Department.
Assists in managing the daily operations of the unit utilizing quality, cost effective patient care principles. Supervises supports and develops nursing unit staff and counseling staff.
Consistently utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych / social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area).

Responsibilities
Supervises assigned staff and performs HR functions to include hiring, orientation, staff team relations, evaluations, continuing education, promotions, discipline, termination, interviews, with appropriate input.
Demonstrates the ability to interpret, apply and follow personnel policies / procedures fairly and consistently. In collaboration with the Manager, oversees and manages counseling staff, students, nursing station staff (RN’s, Counselor Techs / PCTs Unit Secretaries) and assists with 24-hour accountability for area(s) of responsibility.
Responsible for counseling staff development, training and education as identified in yearly Needs Assessment required for State of Iowa licensure.
Also provides support and development of counseling staff through regularly scheduled Team Meetings, and / or individual or group supervisory sessions.
Responsible for daily operation of the clinical components of Powell CDC which includes coverage for PTO, training needs, lecture series, weekend coverage, on-call coverage, etc.
May include direct patient care in the absence of staff. Requires high level of visibility to patients and staff.
Monitors compliance with quality indicators. Reviews open and closed records for completeness and compliance. Reviews Diagnostic Summaries, placement screens, and continuing stay reviews for compliance to ASAM criteria and State of Iowa licensure regulations.
Gathers data and submits reports as assigned. Ensures appropriate and prompt patient care.
Qualifications
Education : Bachelor’s Degree in a Behavioral Health field required.
Experience : Must have a minimum of 1 year of managerial or equivalent coordinating experience. Must have significant experience working with adult clients with substance use disorders (SUD).
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a behavioral health field with increasing levels of accountability. Experience with case management concepts preferred.
Has strong working knowledge of computers to include Word, Excel, and medical terminology. Previous quality improvement experience preferred.
License(s) / Certification(s) : Must be a CADC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor). Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities : Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse professional, educational and lifestyle backgrounds.
Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English. Varied duties with changeable tasks dealing with both people and ideas.
Must be mature and show ability to exercise good judgment in analyzing situations. Must show ability to make good decisions and ability to maintain high professional standards.
Must show ability to coordinate, plan, prioritize, set goals and problem solve during stressful situations. Ability to work with patients of various ages.
Must have a strong working knowledge the ASAM. Must have a strong knowledge base regarding substance abuse licensure requirements for treatment centers operating in the state of Iowa.
