General Description
The purpose of this class within the organization is to provide a broad range of administrative duties and other assistance in the overall daily operation of the City of Charleston Municipal Court system including, but not limited to preparing court dockets and assisting during court sessions.
This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Essential Functions :
Strives to be efficient and effective at balancing and meeting the common needs and reasonable expectations of core constitutes.
Contributes towards the department's mission by continuously striving to meet expectations, strategic goals and objectives.
Prepares court dockets weekly; schedules future docket cases.
Provides customer service; answers phone; speaks with customers in person at the counter.
Assists the Municipal Judge and Court Clerk during court sessions.
Assists with court clean-up.
Accepts payments for court fines; collects and issues receipts for traffic citation fines.
Performs data processing of State of West Virginia Uniform Citations and Criminal Complaints.
Sends in-state and out-of-state suspensions to the Department of Motor Vehicles for those who failed to appear in court or failed to pay court fines according to WV State Code.
Additional Duties :
Ensures the information is entered correctly in the system; provides defendants with copies of citations and or complaints.
Reviews data and laws to determine probable cause when officers file criminal complaints with the court which could result in arrest warrants being issued.
Submits reports to State agencies which may result in license suspensions or the release of suspensions.
Performs other various clerical duties including but not limited to filing, faxing, shredding, answering phone calls and email correspondence, mailing payment plan due or past due letters.
Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements :
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent; Associate Degree in related field desired.
Requires two years of paralegal, criminal justice, or cashiering experience or closely related experience.
Requires knowledge in the use of a personal computer and in the application of Microsoft Office Products.
Special Certifications and Licenses :
Notary Public or the ability to obtain.
Ability to be bonded.
