Job Description
The City of Chesapeake Public Works Department, Facility Maintenance Division is currently accepting applications for one full-time Facility Maintenance Technician I position.
Chesapeake Public Works is seeking a motivated and detailed-oriented individual to maintain and repair structural components of city buildings, with special emphasis on carpentry and basic structural preventative maintenance.

Tasks include, but are not limited to :
- Perform all types of normal structural maintenance and repair including some minor construction. This may include supervision of contractors performing similar work, to include inspection and quality assurance.
- Perform minor modifications to structures during renovation projects.
- Repair shingle and built-up roofing systems.
- Maintain necessary city records and purchase materials.
Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT :
Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES :
Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with . Special skills or equipment certification may be required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
In addition to satisfying the vocational / education standards, this class requires a minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT :
Performance of essential functions may require exposure to confined spaces. Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and / or City-wide emergencies.
Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties. Preferred Qualifications
