Position Overview

The Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Patient Care reports to the Dean of the School of Dentistry and will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, oversight, and management of all clinical programming that supports student’s clinical education across the four years of predoctoral dental education.

The Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Patient Care provides administrative support for the clinical activities in anticipation of, and in response to the ongoing and evolving needs of the students, patients, staff, and faculty.

The Associate Dean will maintain a supportive relationship with other administrators, students, staff, and faculty to achieve the mission and vision of the dental school, to ensure compliance with accreditation standards, and all safety regulations related to the dental school clinical facilities and clinical operations.

Duties and Responsibilities In accordance with Marquette University policies and procedures,

Work collaboratively with extramural clinic sites, hospitals, and other organizations to promote calibration of MUSoD clinical program goals.

Coordinate the activity of the department chairs and program directors in terms of quality improvement plans.

Develop budgetary goals for clinic revenues and expenses in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Finance and Administration.

Work in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Finance and Administration to address case mix and develop strategies to increase the current patient base.

Collaborate with department chairs, program directors, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and other stakeholders to continuously assess and innovate the curriculum.

Ensure the clinical curriculum aligns with the mission of the School of Dentistry and emphasizes professionalism at all levels.

Collaborate, with department chairs, program directors, and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to develop an evaluation process that assures that defined competencies in clinical education are met and continued.

Identify and implement activities in conjunction with the department chairs and program directors for faculty calibration and faculty development.

Identify and implement activities, in conjunction with department chairs and program directors, to identify, recruit, and incentivize adjunct faculty to assist with the teaching and mentorship of students.

Continuously assess and improve timely care to patients and optimize patient centered care.

Develop patient education initiatives with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, department chairs and program directors.

Develop and promote a formal patient advocacy program, in collaboration with the Office of Student Services, and develop mechanisms to monitor and link this activity to quality improvement.

Together with the Office of Dental Informatics, develop and promote regular clinic and patient management review using EHR algorithms, and develop mechanisms to link this activity to quality improvement.

Provide leadership and direction of the quality control and management of dental laboratory service delivered to the School of Dentistry.

Together with the Office of Dental Informatics, coordinate and communicate with Marquette University’s Information Technology Services Department on matters related to clinical operations.

Develop, with department chairs and program directors, a staged plan for clinic renovation and building maintenance.

Develop relevant reports and data for various agencies and groups in conjunction with others as necessary.

Other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Dentistry.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proven record of academic leadership with the ability to lead, manage, advise, and communicate effectively.

Experience in managing academic dental clinical operations including financial and personnel management and strategic planning.

The academic standing and professional experience needed to work both with key faculty committees and with specific student constituencies.

Knowledge of the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards.Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated attention to detail, professional attitude, and ability to maintain confidentiality.DDS / DMD degree from a US or Canadian dental school recognized by the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation, or a comparable foreign degree.

A current, valid license to practice dentistry in the State of Wisconsin, or be eligible and receive a dental faculty license in the State of Wisconsin by the date of hire.

Current CPR certification. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Prior administrative and leadership experience.

Previous dental teaching experience at either pre-doctoral or post-graduate levels. Department Dental School
