Look no further - we have the job for you! Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for an Inpatient Vet Assistant to work in the Intermediate Care ( IMC ), Intensive Care Unit ( ICU ), and Emergency Room (ER) section of our Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital .

The individual in this position will work directly with the IMC clinicians and rotating intern doctors to help facilitate quality care and patient flow through the IMC , ICU , and ER.

This is an overnight shift rotating monthly between weekends and weekdays;

Monday - Thursday 10 : 00PM - 8 : 00AM, Friday -Sunday 7 : 00PM - 8 : 00AM.

Essential Functions

• Assists with administering treatments and monitoring patients admitted in IMC or ICU , Observes and records vital data, abnormal signs, body weight, food / water intake of animals, and collects and labels specimens and perform treatments and administer medications as prescribed by primary veterinarian.
• Performs and demonstrates veterinary care techniques and procedures related to emergency and critical care medicine.
• Assists veterinarians in the care of patients requiring advanced procedures and life-saving techniques including CPR , mechanical ventilation and dialysis.

Inspects facilities, equipment, and supplies daily, as well as observes health status of animals, environmental conditions, temperature, and sanitation.

• Perform job duties with speed and accuracy and work as essential personnel, providing care for patients after hours, on weekends and holidays.
• Assists with emergency triage and stabilization of patients presenting through the Emergency service.
• May be responsible for, or assist in, billing clients, inputting charges, and / or similar tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Depending upon a combination of education and experience, the finalist selected for this position will be hired as a Veterinary Assistant - Inpatient and assigned levels II or III .

Level II : Requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital environment.

Level III : Requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital environment.

Substitutions allowed for Education :

Indicated education is required; no substitutions allowed.

Substitutions allowed for Experience :

When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
